President Donald Trump’s public fury at U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro gained another voice Monday when White House trade adviser Peter Navarro erupted during Steve Bannon’s War Room—and made clear his grievance is intensely personal.
Navarro became agitated when Bannon mentioned Pirro, who has already spent several days taking incoming fire from Trump over her handling of the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool vandalism case.
“Do me a favor, Steve, when I’m on camera,” Navarro began. “Never mention her friggin’ name to me.”
Why? Navarro said Pirro has refused to fire federal prosecutor John Crabb, who participated in the contempt-of-Congress case that sent Navarro to federal prison for four months.
“That woman still refuses to fire John Crabb, the prosecutor who was involved in putting you and me behind bars,” Navarro charged.
Bannon attempted to tap the brakes.
“Stop. We love Jeanine,” he protested.
That did not help.
“Don’t you dare mention Judge Jeanine,” Navarro fired back, recalling how Crabb had portrayed him during the prosecution. “That guy—how is that guy still working here?”
Navarro was convicted in 2023 after refusing to comply with a subpoena from the House committee investigating January 6. He served his sentence in 2024 and has continued appealing the conviction.
The Trump Justice Department later stopped defending Navarro’s conviction, but it did not seek to erase it as it did in Bannon’s case. Pirro personally signed a February motion asking a federal judge to dismiss Bannon’s contempt conviction “in the interests of justice.”
Navarro insisted his complaint was professional rather than merely personal. “That guy is on the inside, Steve, of our Justice Department,” he said. “He went after you. He should be gone. Jeanine, are you listening?”
Bannon, sensing that the friendly-fire cannon had been loaded and discharged on his program, jokingly tried to establish an alibi.
“I want Judge Pirro to know I had nothing to do with this,” Bannon said. “This is Navarro.”
Navarro’s tirade landed while Pirro was already under pressure from Trump over her office’s decision to dismiss vandalism charges against former Olympic canoeist David Hearn.
Trump accused Pirro of having “choked” and “folded like an umbrella” after prosecutors abandoned the case. On Monday, the president renewed his accusations against Hearn—even while acknowledging that “some contractor error” contributed to damage at the recently renovated Reflecting Pool.
Pirro’s office said the case collapsed after the Interior Department failed to disclose problems with the pool’s rushed renovation and installation work. Hearn maintains that he merely touched a loose section of the lining and committed no vandalism.
So Pirro is now trapped between two angry Trump allies over two entirely different cases: Trump wants her office to revive one prosecution, while Navarro wants her to punish someone involved in another.
