Federal immigration authorities are threatening possible criminal charges against a Virginia motorist after an ICE agent was recorded pointing a handgun through her car window—but publicly released video does not show the alleged vehicle attack that the Department of Homeland Security says prompted the confrontation.
Carolina Molina, a 36-year-old U.S. citizen and mother of two, was surrounded by ICE agents Monday afternoon in a Falls Church-area office park after she shouted profanities at agents conducting an immigration operation nearby.

“Yeah, you record us,” the agent says. “You almost ran us over.”
“I didn’t almost run you over,” Molina responds. “You’re so full of s—.”
The agent threatens to arrest her before Molina repeatedly tells the officers she is an American citizen.
She was never ordered out of the car, handcuffed or arrested. Agents collected identifying information, photographed her license plate and eventually allowed her to leave.
As of Thursday morning, no criminal charges had been announced, and DHS had not publicly identified the agent or said that his decision to draw the weapon was under formal review.
Molina’s dash cameras captured portions of the encounter before her cellphone recording began.
The available footage shows her driving into an office park shortly before 3 p.m., maneuvering around a stopped vehicle and shouting insults at an agent walking toward a gray Dodge Durango.
“You’re a ho,” she says. “You’re f—ed up.”
Molina then turns into a parking space. The Durango pulls in front of her while two additional unmarked vehicles move behind her, blocking her car.
One agent exits his vehicle with his handgun already drawn and asks, “Are you following us?”
The publicly released video does not show Molina trying to strike an agent with her vehicle. CNN’s Anderson Cooper stressed that the footage may not contain every moment of the encounter.
“The video does not show her doing what the ICE officers accused her of—trying to run them over,” Cooper said. “Again, we do not know what, if anything, was not caught on camera.”
Molina said the dashcam footage proves she never endangered the agents.
“If I did try to run someone over, you think I’d get arrested for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon,” she told Fox 5 DC. “None of those things occurred because they were all lies.”
“Once I said, ‘I have video, I have a dashcam,’ they went on their merry way,” she added.
The Department of Homeland Security offered a sharply different account.
“An anti-ICE agitator began to drive her car in circles around our ICE officers and then attempted to harm officers by weaponizing her vehicle against them—all in an attempt to help illegal aliens get away,” a DHS spokesperson said.
“Fearing for their safety, ICE officers conducted a vehicle stop of the driver,” the agency continued. “Necessary background information of the driver was taken, and she could face criminal prosecution as a result of her actions.”
DHS said the agents were conducting a “targeted immigration enforcement” operation involving illegal immigrants with criminal histories that included drug trafficking and hit-and-run offenses, along with people under final removal orders.
The agency did not identify the suspects or say whether anyone targeted in the operation was arrested.
DHS also cited sharp increases in threats and violence against immigration officers, claiming assaults have risen more than 1,300%, vehicle attacks 3,300% and death threats 8,000%. The statement reported percentages without supplying the underlying incident totals or comparison period.
“When faced with dangerous circumstances, DHS law enforcement used their training to protect themselves, their fellow officers and the public,” the agency said.
Molina is a licensed professional counselor who conducts psychological evaluations for immigrants pursuing asylum applications, visas and hardship claims.
She told The Washington Post that she was delivering business cards to immigration lawyers when she saw agents detaining two men near Columbia Pike.
A daughter of Salvadoran immigrants, Molina said she became angry and yelled at the agents before continuing toward the office park.
After recognizing several unmarked law-enforcement vehicles, she said she decided not to enter the lawyers’ office because she feared drawing attention to immigrants who might be inside. She began to leave, she said, when agents blocked her car.
“The whole situation was like an intimidation tactic,” Molina told the Post.
She compared the encounter to the January fatal shooting of Renée Good during an ICE operation in Minneapolis.
“I don’t think I comprehended it in that moment, but looking back on it, it really felt like a Renée Good situation,” Molina said.
“I understand how these situations can get so crazy that people can lose their lives,” she separately told Fox 5. “I have kids, a husband, parents, a brother. I’m not going to put myself in a situation like this.”
CNN senior crime and justice correspondent Shimon Prokupecz focused on the agent’s immediate reliance on his weapon. “When you see those officers—especially that officer—come out with his weapon, they are already agitated,” Prokupecz said. “What is so striking, what we see time and time again, is them so quickly going for their gun,” he continued. “There’s nothing else. There’s no de-escalating.”
Rep. Don Beyer, a Virginia Democrat whose district includes the area, said his office had contacted Molina and was demanding “answers and consequences.”
“While I am relieved that she is safe, the habitual dishonesty and dangerous and unjustified escalation seen in this video matches what we have seen from ICE agents across the country,” Beyer said.
Fairfax County officials and the local Democratic committee have called for a full investigation. No federal review has yet been publicly confirmed.
