There is political rhetoric. There is propaganda. And then there is a state television network broadcasting what amounts to an assassination fantasy about the 20-year-old son of the president of the United States.
Iranian state television crossed that line with a disturbing roughly three-minute segment targeting Barron Trump, depicting purported efforts to track his movements, map his social connections and find ways around his Secret Service protection.
The segment reportedly carried a title translated as “Where to kill Barron Trump?” and portrayed the president’s youngest son as being under surveillance.
Iranian television used dramatized imagery suggesting operatives were tracking locations associated with Barron, studying people around him and examining his online activity. Iran International, which reviewed the broadcast, reported that it portrayed attempts to “penetrate layers of Secret Service protection.”
“This is just the beginning! Barron Trump, wait for us!” the segment declared, according to the New York Post.
The broadcast also referred to a supposed $10 million reward connected with targeting Barron, with the narrator asserting that “many would be willing” to collect it.
That claim requires an enormous asterisk. There is currently no independent evidence establishing that an actual $10 million bounty has been placed on Barron Trump, nor evidence that Iranian operatives have successfully conducted the surveillance depicted in the program. Iran International specifically says it could not verify the broadcast’s operational claims and notes that the segment relies heavily on dramatized graphics.
In other words, we know Iran’s state television broadcast the threat. We do not know that it can do what it claims it can do. But that hardly makes the broadcast harmless.
Iran has a documented history of threats and alleged assassination plots directed at Americans. U.S. prosecutors have previously charged individuals with Iranian connections in alleged plots targeting former National Security Adviser John Bolton and other former American officials. In 2024, federal prosecutors also alleged that an Iranian operative had been tasked with developing a plan to assassinate Donald Trump. And just last month, an Iraqi militia reportedly offered a $10 million reward for Trump’s killing, according to Iranian state-run IRNA and Russian state-run RT.
That’s what makes the Barron broadcast different — and particularly ugly. Iranian state television apparently decided that threatening a president wasn’t provocative enough and moved on to depicting his child as a target.
Iran International called the shift toward Trump’s immediate family a “potentially significant escalation” in Tehran’s threatening rhetoric.
And it comes as tensions between Washington and Tehran are already extraordinarily high. Greece reportedly moved a Patriot missile-defense system to Crete Monday amid Iranian threats against U.S. military bases in Europe, while Tehran has warned it could strike countries whose territory is used to launch American attacks.

There isn’t much funny about this one.
You want to pound your chest at Donald Trump? Go ahead. Threaten the United States military? You’ll discover fairly quickly how that works out. But producing a state television segment fantasizing about killing the president’s 20-year-old son?
That’s not strength. That’s the behavior of a regime desperate to look terrifying while advertising to the entire world exactly what it is.
And here’s something Tehran might want to remember before its television producers make Episode Two: Americans fight about everything. Trump. Democrats. Republicans. Elections. Immigration. Taxes. What constitutes a woman. Whether pineapple belongs on pizza.
But threatening an American president’s kid has a remarkable way of simplifying the conversation.
