Trump embraces ‘Donald Ducks’ as Lake America trolling hits new level

President Donald Trump has apparently found the newest members of his border patrol. Donald Ducks.

Trump jumped back into the Lake America spectacle Saturday morning, reposting a wildly over-the-top video celebrating his decision to rename Lake Ontario.

The clip shows a flock of ducks bobbing around the water — each outfitted with unmistakably Trump-like blond hair — while declaring: “LAKE AMERICA — PROTECTED BY DONALD DUCKS.”

Trump reposted the meme on Truth Social at 10:50 a.m. Saturday.

 

And judging by Trump’s repost, the president appears perfectly happy to keep the joke — and the controversy — going.

The meme emerged after Trump formally signed an executive order Thursday directing the federal government to rename Lake Ontario “Lake America.” The president had already previewed the move with his own bit of performance art.

In a video released Wednesday, Trump sat behind the Resolute Desk with a map of Lake Ontario, grabbed a black marker and crossed out its old name.

“We’re gonna call it Lake America,” Trump said, adding that all it took was “a good pen and some intelligence.”

The official order followed the next day, amid Trump’s escalating trade battle with Canada. The federal government is now directed to use Lake America, although Canada and individual states are under no obligation to follow along.

New York Gov. Kathy Hochul has already made her position clear: “New York won’t be calling it that,” she wrote on X.

Trump responded by accusing Hochul of choosing Canada over the United States.

And now? The Donald Ducks have been deployed.

MY TAKE

Trump has discovered the political equivalent of repeatedly poking your sibling in the back seat and asking, “Why are you getting mad?”

At this point, every furious denunciation of Lake America probably guarantees another week of memes. And now he has a navy.
