Clintons seek intern with ‘high level of discretion’ — internet immediately loses it

by

BS BULLETIN:

  • Hillary Clinton’s office is seeking an unpaid fall intern in New York — and the official job description requires a “high level of professionalism and discretion.”
  • The internet noticed that particular combination of words and immediately began making Bill Clinton jokes: “Bill lost intern privileges.”
  • Bill isn’t actually hiring the intern. His office has a separate opening for a $50,000-$55,000-a-year “Special Projects Associate,” which somehow gave everyone even more material.

Some job advertisements really should be run past the history department before publication.

The Office of Hillary Rodham Clinton is looking for an intern.

We’ll give you a moment.

The unpaid fall internship runs from Sept. 9 through Nov. 13 at Clinton’s Madison Avenue office in New York City and is open to undergraduate students receiving academic credit.

The intern will conduct research, draft briefing memos, transcribe speeches, manage mail and archives, assist with scheduling and provide logistical support at events.

And then we reach the qualifications.

The Clinton office wants someone with: “A high level of professionalism and discretion.”

Oh, dear.

The internet required approximately three seconds.

“Bill lost intern privileges,” one commenter joked.

Another went directly to the former president’s most famous linguistic contribution to American history: “Depends on what the definition of internship is.”

And another simply observed that the last time the words “Clinton” and “college intern” occupied the same news story, things didn’t exactly go according to the employee handbook.

This internship is for Hillary’s office. Bill Clinton’s team is looking for someone else entirely. His opening is for a paid “Special Projects Associate.”

Because apparently somebody in Clinton-world decided the internet hadn’t been given enough ammunition yet.

The associate would provide administrative and strategic support to the former president’s office, prepare correspondence and meeting materials, coordinate travel and scheduling and assist with — yes — special projects.

That position pays $50,000 to $55,000 annually.

The jokes, of course, require absolutely no explanation for anybody old enough to remember the 1990s.

Bill Clinton’s relationship with White House intern Monica Lewinsky ultimately became part of the investigation that resulted in his 1998 impeachment by the House for perjury and obstruction of justice.

The Senate later acquitted him.

Nearly three decades later, Clinton’s name plus “intern” plus “discretion” remains one of those combinations the internet is physically incapable of ignoring.

And this isn’t some parody job listing created to bait conservatives.

The internship is real. The qualifications are real. The “discretion” line is real. And, yes, Bill’s “Special Projects” job is real too.

Sometimes satire has the decency to write itself.

MY QUICK TAKE

Whoever wrote this job posting deserves a raise.

Or possibly a meeting with HR.

“Hillary Clinton seeks intern with high level of discretion” is already a punchline.

Then you discover Bill is simultaneously looking for somebody to handle “special projects.”

At that point, I’m putting the keyboard down.

The 1990s have this one covered.
