Trump goes brunette — and the internet has questions

by

BS BULLETIN:

  • President Donald Trump stepped off Air Force One in New Jersey Friday sporting hair noticeably darker than his familiar golden-blond look.
  • The apparent makeover immediately lit up social media, with observers debating everything from hair dye to lighting to whether Trump had simply decided it was time for a new look.
  • Making the timing irresistible: Just two days earlier, Trump had once again insisted publicly that his famous hair is real and that he does not wear a wig.

Forget Iran. Forget Congress. Forget the midterms.

America would like an explanation for the hair.

President Donald Trump stepped off Air Force One in Morristown, New Jersey, Friday with a surprisingly different version of perhaps the most recognizable presidential hairstyle in American history.

The blond was gone — or at least considerably diminished. In its place was a much darker, almost brunette Trump.

And the internet noticed.

Journalist Yashar Ali posted Getty images of the president and expressed disbelief that the photographs were genuine.

Fox News reported that social media quickly filled with questions about whether the president had changed his hair color, while TMZ noted another difference: Trump’s familiar side part appeared to have switched directions. The New York Post declared that Trump’s famous hair had entered its “dark age.”

There was even a James Bond comparison.

Jeopardy! champion Hemant Mehta supplied the inevitable hair joke, warning that continued mockery could produce “hell toupée.”

Whether the makeover is permanent remains a mystery.

Trump went golfing Saturday with Fox News anchor Bret Baier and others while wearing a red “Trump Was Right About Everything” hat, conveniently covering enough of the presidential mane to keep the investigation alive.

The White House had not offered an explanation for the apparent color change as of Sunday.

And there is another reason the timing attracted attention. At a White House event Wednesday, Trump had revisited decades of speculation about his hair while recounting a windy 2024 campaign rally in Ohio.

“I don’t wear a wig,” Trump said, arguing that the heavy winds that night would have settled the matter if he did.

Trump has defended the authenticity of his hair for years.

During the 2016 presidential campaign, he famously allowed Jimmy Fallon to muss it up on “The Tonight Show.” In 2019, he briefly startled the country with a slicked-back hairstyle during a Virginia appearance before quickly returning to the familiar Trump look.

This time, however, the color is doing the talking.

MY QUICK TAKE

The man changes his hair color and half the internet launches a forensic investigation.

Personally, I’m waiting for the White House briefing: “No, the president has not abandoned blondes. Next question.”
