James Carville has apparently decided the Russia story isn’t over until somebody finds the tape.
The longtime Democratic strategist declared Thursday that he still believes Russian President Vladimir Putin has compromising material on President Donald Trump — and resurrected one of the wildest allegations from the original Russiagate era to explain why.
The “pee tape.”
Carville made the remarks on his Politics War Room podcast after co-host Al Hunt read a listener’s suggestion that Trump could be “working for Putin.”
Carville didn’t dismiss the theory.
Quite the opposite. “No, mademoiselle, you’re not crazy,” Carville responded.
He then pointed to Trump’s approach toward Russia and criticized special envoy Steve Witkoff’s dealings with Putin, arguing that the administration repeatedly behaves in ways favorable to the Russian leader.
Carville said he could find “no other explanation” for Trump’s conduct. Then he went there. “I have always thought, and I continue to believe, there is a pee tape,” Carville said.
Yes. That pee tape.
Carville was resurrecting the sensational and unverified allegation that emerged from the infamous Steele dossier nearly a decade ago. The dossier contained claims that Russian intelligence possessed compromising video involving Trump and prostitutes during a 2013 trip to Moscow. The allegation has never been substantiated.
Trump has repeatedly and emphatically denied it.
Even Carville conceded Thursday that he doesn’t know whether any such video actually depicts what the original rumor alleged.
His larger point, he explained, was kompromat — compromising material Russia could theoretically use against Trump.
“They’ve got something on this guy,” Carville insisted. “They just have to have it, ’cause nothing else makes sense.”
Hunt offered another possible explanation: Trump may simply admire authoritarian leaders, including Putin. But Carville wasn’t ready to abandon his theory.
And this isn’t the first time he’s brought it up. Carville has previously said publicly that he believes some form of compromising material involving Trump exists.
Thursday’s comments show that years of investigations, political warfare and unanswered questions haven’t changed his mind.
James Carville still believes Putin has something on Donald Trump. And somewhere in Russia, apparently, there may still be a VHS tape waiting for its moment.

We’re doing the pee tape again? In 2026?
Carville has already proudly announced that he suffers from “Trump Derangement Syndrome” and has absolutely no desire to recover.
Apparently there are symptoms.
Look, criticize Trump’s Russia policy. Question Witkoff. Ask why Trump says nice things about Putin. That’s politics.
But Carville’s argument here basically boils down to: I can’t explain Trump’s behavior, therefore Vladimir Putin must have the tape.
That’s not evidence. That’s an episode of Unsolved Mysteries.
And perhaps the funniest part is that even Carville doesn’t know what’s supposedly on his tape anymore.
