Jasmine Crockett gets torched by progressives after honoring Chris Brown

This time, some of Crockett’s harshest critics are coming from her own side of the political aisle.

Rep. Jasmine Crockett managed to find a new way to get herself into a political firestorm — and this time, conservatives aren’t the only ones bringing the matches.

The outgoing Texas Democrat appeared onstage Saturday during Chris Brown and Usher’s R&B Tour stop at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, where she joined Texas state Rep. Venton Jones and producer RoccStar to recognize the performers in the Congressional Record.

“We are experiencing Black joy at the highest level,” Crockett told the sold-out crowd, explaining that she wanted the moment documented “at the congressional level.”

I’m not sure what she wants her next chapter to be, but I wish she’d close the current one before doing things like this.

Crockett was particularly enthusiastic about Brown, telling the audience, “We are here because of Chris Brown!” and later calling the singer “a real one.” Brown embraced Crockett onstage after receiving the recognition.

That did not sit well with a sizable chunk of the Left.

The problem is Brown’s well-documented history, most notably his 2009 guilty plea to felony assault after attacking then-girlfriend Rihanna. Brown was sentenced to five years of probation, community service, and domestic-violence counseling.

The progressive backlash was immediate, and other left-leaning and Black-focused corners of the internet quickly joined in.

Bossip argued that celebrating Black culture was one thing, but using an official congressional recognition to honor Brown was another. The outlet questioned why Crockett would elevate someone with Brown’s history when there were countless other ways to celebrate Black artists and culture.

The reaction on social media was even less delicate.

One Reddit discussion in the BlackLadies community drew hundreds of reactions, including from people identifying themselves as Crockett supporters who said they were disappointed by the decision. Another discussion about the congressional recognition drew thousands of votes and similarly furious responses.

Crockett’s remarks may have added gasoline to the controversy.

“Listen, we got a lot of scammers in Washington, D.C., but we got a real one standing on stage with us,” she said of Brown.

Crockett lost the Democratic U.S. Senate primary to Rep. James Talarico earlier this year and is expected to leave her House seat in January. Apparently there’s still time for an encore.

You know you’ve pulled off something special when Jasmine Crockett walks onto a stage expecting “Black joy” and walks off with progressives asking, “Jasmine, what in the world are you doing?”

And nobody can blame MAGA for this one.

When your own cheering section starts throwing tomatoes, maybe it wasn’t the audience. Maybe it was the act.
