BS BULLETIN:
- A Florida man told investigators he installed surveillance cameras because somebody was taking money from a coin container.
- Instead, authorities say he discovered footage allegedly showing his estranged wife engaged in sexual activity with the family dog.
- The sheriff had an additional question after her arrest: Why was she smiling in her mugshot?
A Florida husband went looking for a coin thief.
He may now wish he’d never checked the camera.
Malia Elizabeth Nummerdor, 38, was arrested in Charlotte County this week after investigators say home surveillance footage showed her allegedly engaging in sexual activity with the family’s dog.
She has denied that anything sexual occurred.
The bizarre investigation began after Nummerdor’s estranged husband, Erik, posted allegations on Facebook on Sept. 11 and said he possessed photographic and video evidence, according to an arrest affidavit obtained by People.
When investigators interviewed Erik, he explained why the cameras were there in the first place.
Somebody had apparently been taking money from a coin container.
Erik told investigators he’d installed two surveillance cameras inside the residence in an attempt to find out who was responsible.
According to the affidavit, he said the bedroom camera was visible, had a blinking red light and was known to people living in the home.
Then he reviewed the recordings.
Authorities say he discovered footage involving Malia and the family’s dog, Ranger.
Erik provided investigators with screenshots and allowed them access to the laptop containing the recordings.
A detective who reviewed the material said it showed a partially nude woman positioned with the dog in a manner the investigator considered consistent with sexual activity.
The Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office questioned Nummerdor on Sept. 15.
According to investigators, she confirmed that she was the woman depicted in the footage and that the animal was the family’s dog.
But she denied engaging in sexual activity.
The sheriff’s office said Nummerdor “could not provide a consistent explanation” for what investigators believed the recording showed.
People, citing the arrest affidavit, reported that Nummerdor also claimed the cameras had been installed without her knowledge and that her estranged husband had previously threatened her with the recordings.
The alleged conduct therefore remains an accusation, and the charge has not been proven in court.
Nummerdor was arrested on a charge of sexual activity involving animals, a second-degree felony under Florida law.
She was being held on $35,000 bond. And then came the mugshot. Nummerdor smiled broadly for the booking photo.
Charlotte County Sheriff Bill Prummell noticed.
“There are only a few times in my career that I have been at a loss for words,” Prummell said in the department’s statement.
“This is one of those times.”
The sheriff said he couldn’t comprehend the alleged behavior and emphasized that animals should never be subjected to such conduct.
Then he addressed the picture.
“And then to smile in the mugshot?” Prummell asked. “I don’t know what there is to smile about when you’ve been arrested for something as disgusting as this.”
MY QUICK TAKE
There are stories where I can practically hear Rush reaching for the stack and saying: “Okay, folks. You’re not going to believe this one.”
Missing coins.
Bedroom camera.
Family dog.
Smiling mugshot.
Florida.
Sometimes my job is to add something. Today, I believe my work here is done.
