BS BULLETIN:
- A member of Rep. Joyce Beatty’s legal team declared under penalty of perjury that she watched a forklift hit Kennedy Center pillars “several times.”
- The allegation quickly spread online amid the legal fight over President Trump’s plans for the building.
- One thing appears to be missing: publicly available video of the alleged collisions.
A remarkable allegation about the Kennedy Center is making the rounds online.
And an awful lot of people have the same question: Where’s the video?
Bridget Kennedy-Bailey, who works with the Washington Litigation Group representing Democratic Rep. Joyce Beatty in her Kennedy Center lawsuit, submitted a sworn declaration describing what she witnessed outside the performing arts center Wednesday.
Kennedy-Bailey said she saw workers installing gates and construction barriers around the building.
Then came the part that caught everyone’s attention.
“Afterward, I saw a forklift carrying what appeared to be a more permanent form of fencing drive over to the north side of the building,” Kennedy-Bailey wrote.
“I saw the forklift run into and hit the pillars on the building several times.”
The statement was made under penalty of perjury.
Ben Meiselas of MeidasTouch posted the declaration on X, announcing that a legal observer had witnessed a forklift “repeatedly crashing into the pillars of the Kennedy Center.”
That post took off.
But so did the questions. “Could we see a photo of her claim?” one X user asked, noting that virtually everyone carries a camera-equipped phone.
Others asked whether surveillance cameras captured the incident or why nobody else outside the building appeared to have recorded it.
And that’s an important distinction in this increasingly bizarre Kennedy Center saga.
There is a sworn eyewitness account saying the forklift struck the pillars. But as of Friday morning, The Daily BS could not locate publicly released video showing those impacts.
Major outlets reporting the allegation aren’t pointing readers to video either.
CBS News reported the witness statement.
NPR reported the witness statement.
Axios reported the witness statement.
The publicly circulating evidence of the alleged collisions remains Kennedy-Bailey’s declaration.
Her statement also does not say whether she believed the forklift driver struck the pillars intentionally or accidentally.
That hasn’t stopped the allegation from becoming part of the much larger legal fight surrounding the Kennedy Center.
President Trump has said the deteriorating building could ultimately be “ripped down,” while Kennedy Center officials insist no demolition is currently taking place.
Trump was also photographed aboard Air Force One looking at a large rendering containing the words “Kennedy Center DEMOLISHED.”
On Thursday, U.S. District Judge Christopher Cooper ordered officials to provide 30 days’ written notice before undertaking any demolition and demanded a detailed status report explaining the building’s temporary closure and emergency repairs.
Meanwhile, Kennedy Center spokeswoman Roma Daravi has said safety concerns stemming from years of infrastructure problems necessitated the closure and insisted that “nothing is being demolished.”
So we have fencing. We have forklifts.
We have a legal observer swearing that one of those forklifts repeatedly hit the building.
We have hundreds of thousands of people discussing it online.
What we apparently don’t have is the one thing everybody wants to see.
The forklift video.
MY QUICK TAKE
This may turn out to be exactly what the witness says she saw.
But come on.
It’s 2026. Somebody can drop a sandwich in Washington and six people have three camera angles and a TikTok remix before it hits the sidewalk.
A forklift repeatedly hitting the Kennedy Center?
Show us the forklift!
