Patrick Clancy’s new wife is stepping directly into the public firestorm that has surrounded him since Lindsay Clancy’s murder trial — and she says the story people are telling about her husband bears little resemblance to the man she knows.

Dr. Rachel Danis appears alongside Patrick in a newly released preview of their upcoming “60 Minutes” interview, marking the first time she has publicly addressed the scrutiny surrounding their relationship.

“I don’t understand how the story’s been so twisted,” Danis told correspondent Ross Douthat.

She described Patrick as “the most selfless father and supportive partner” and offered a strikingly ordinary account of how their relationship began.

“I was just a girl that met a guy running in Central Park on a really cold Saturday,” she said. “And I don’t think there’s anything wrong with that.”

Danis, a reproductive endocrinologist and infertility specialist, married Patrick in April. Their relationship became a subject of intense online discussion after Patrick’s divorce and remarriage became public during jury selection in Lindsay Clancy’s trial.

Patrick has also been the subject of unsupported online conspiracy theories suggesting he was somehow involved in the January 2023 deaths of his three children, Cora, 5, Dawson, 3, and Callan, 8 months. His attorney, Howard Cooper, has publicly condemned those accusations and said the online attacks have resulted in threats against Patrick and his family.

Patrick’s former wife, Lindsay Clancy, was charged with murdering the children. Her defense did not dispute that she killed them but argued she was not criminally responsible because she was suffering from severe postpartum psychosis.

Her trial ended Sept. 4 in a mistrial after jurors failed to reach a unanimous verdict. Prosecutors have not announced whether they will retry the case, and a status hearing is scheduled for Sept. 29.

The Danis clip is the latest piece of the highly anticipated “60 Minutes” interview CBS has released ahead of Sunday’s broadcast. In another preview, Patrick revealed that he still talks to his children.

“Help me. All the time,” Patrick said when Douthat asked what he says to them.

“I like to believe they do,” he said when asked whether they help him. “It’s a way I stay connected to them.”

The interview will be Patrick’s first television interview since the mistrial and the couple’s first joint interview.

It airs Sunday, Sept. 20, at 7 p.m. ET on CBS and Paramount+.
