Tucker Carlson has taken his criticism of Israel to another level.

During an interview with commentator Emily Jashinsky, Carlson said Israelis will eventually have to “repent” for what he says their government has done in Gaza — and compared that reckoning to the one Germany faced after the Nazis.

Jashinsky asked Carlson how a potential change in Israeli leadership might affect his view of the country and its relationship with the United States.

Carlson began by sharply criticizing Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, saying he believes Netanyahu has “gravely hurt Israel.”

But Carlson also stressed that he does not want the country destroyed. “I’ve never been against the nation of Israel,” Carlson said, adding that he has visited the country frequently and knows people there.

Then came the comparison. Carlson said Israel would have to “repent for what they did in the same way that the Nazis had to repent for what they did.” He argued that governments accused of atrocities eventually have to acknowledge wrongdoing and punish those responsible. Carlson went on to allege that Israel had killed or wounded roughly a quarter-million unarmed people, including women, children and the elderly.

Those casualty figures and Carlson’s characterization of Israel’s conduct are disputed issues in the broader war and were presented by Carlson during the interview as part of his argument.

His larger point was that simply replacing Netanyahu would not, in his view, settle the matter. Carlson said Israel could not merely elect another prime minister and expect everything that happened during the war to be forgotten.

The remarks come amid Carlson’s increasingly public break with longtime allies on the right over Israel. He has repeatedly criticized U.S. military and financial support for the Israeli government and has clashed with prominent conservatives over the issue.

Carlson has also rejected accusations that his criticism is motivated by antisemitism, saying in other recent discussions that he opposes antisemitism and collective punishment. But his latest remarks go considerably further than a disagreement over American foreign policy. Carlson isn’t merely criticizing Netanyahu. He’s arguing that Israel eventually needs a national reckoning — and invoking post-Nazi Germany to explain what he means.
