Major television networks are reconsidering their suspension of White House pool coverage after an internal review determined that the action had produced no measurable reduction in the public’s exposure to President Donald Trump.

The review was initiated after ABC, CBS, CNN, Fox and NBC suspended participation in pooled presidential video coverage following the White House’s decision to bar CNN, MS NOW and Politico from the press pool.

A broader search found additional Trump content on YouTube, podcasts, cellphones and televisions in airport waiting areas.

The findings prompted executives to expand the review.

According to a preliminary internal assessment, eliminating network pool coverage would require viewers seeking a Trump-free environment to avoid television, radio, social media, news websites, podcasts and most conversations with relatives over the age of 50.

The review also identified an unexpected development involving Trump TV, which the White House has promoted as “The Essentials Station.”

Executives initially classified the operation as a limited government communications platform.

That designation was changed to “potentially annoying” after analysts determined that Trump could continue broadcasting without asking any of the participating networks for permission.

One executive requested an immediate technical assessment of whether the internet could be turned off. Engineers advised against it.

By early Tuesday, the networks had reached a preliminary conclusion that Donald Trump possesses an independent ability to attract public attention that cannot be effectively controlled through adjustments to the White House television pool.

The finding is expected to have significant implications for future media strategy.

A joint working group has been established to determine whether resuming coverage would allow the networks to regain some control over when and how Trump appears on their air.

Its first meeting has been postponed after Trump scheduled another appearance.
