Cory Booker dismisses the ‘DSA noise’ — then touts meeting with DSA member

Sen. Cory Booker was asked whether he considers Michigan Democratic Senate nominee Abdul El-Sayed a “fringe” candidate.
Booker said no, explaining that his previous remark was aimed at the broader “DSA noise” Republicans are highlighting.
Seconds later, Booker touted his meeting with Florida Democratic Senate nominee Angie Nixon — who joined the Democratic Socialists of America this summer.

Sen. Cory Booker would like everyone to stop focusing on all that Democratic Socialists of America “noise.”

Then he brought up the DSA member he’s trying to elect in Florida.

Booker appeared Tuesday on CNN’s “The Source,” where Kaitlan Collins pressed the New Jersey Democrat about his recent comments accusing Republicans of focusing attention on a handful of “fringe” candidates.

Collins wanted to know whether Booker was talking about Michigan Democratic Senate nominee Abdul El-Sayed.

“Do you consider him to be a fringe candidate?” Collins asked.

Booker said he did not.

“No,” Booker replied. “That was in response to the DSA noise that I’m hearing all around the country.”

And then came the interesting part.

“I hope we win Michigan,” Booker continued. “I’m hoping we win — I just met with Florida’s candidate, Angie Nixon.”

Booker said he intends to do “everything I can” to elect Democrats up and down the ballot, arguing that winning control of Congress is necessary to provide a check on President Donald Trump.

There’s just one little wrinkle in the “DSA noise” discussion.

Nixon joined the Democratic Socialists of America over the summer.

CBS Miami reported after Nixon won Florida’s Democratic Senate primary that she acknowledged joining the organization while emphasizing that she doesn’t agree with its entire agenda.

Nixon specifically said she does not support abolishing prisons or defunding police and rejected the DSA’s praise of Fidel Castro.

As The Daily BS reported last week, Nixon recently made headlines by declaring she knows “for a fact” that Trump will not willingly leave office when his term ends in January 2029.

“He won’t leave willingly,” Nixon said. “I know that for a fact.”

Nixon is challenging Republican Sen. Ashley Moody in Florida’s Senate race.

El-Sayed, meanwhile, is the Democratic nominee for Michigan’s open Senate seat.

Booker’s broader argument Tuesday was that Republicans are trying to make national Democratic candidates answer for the most controversial elements of the socialist left rather than focusing on individual candidates and their positions.

But his choice of example produced an awkward bit of television.

The senator dismissed all the “DSA noise.”

Then, in practically his next breath, he mentioned the DSA member he’d just met with and promised to help elect.
