‘Did Fauci pay Biden?’ Ed Martin floats explosive pardon theory

Former Trump pardon attorney Ed Martin questioned how Anthony Fauci secured a preemptive pardon from Joe Biden.
Martin openly wondered whether Fauci paid someone to obtain it, but presented no evidence that any payment occurred.

Former Trump pardon attorney Ed Martin has a question about Anthony Fauci’s last-minute pardon from President Joe Biden — and he isn’t being subtle about it.

During a podcast interview, Martin raised the possibility that money may have played a role in Fauci obtaining the sweeping preemptive pardon Biden issued before leaving office.

“Did Fauci pay somebody?” Martin asked, according to Mediaite. “Did Fauci pay Biden?”

Martin did not present evidence that Fauci paid Biden, a Biden aide or anyone else in exchange for the pardon. His remarks were speculation about how the pardon came about, not an allegation supported by documented proof.

But Martin argued there are unanswered questions surrounding the process.

Fauci’s pardon covered potential federal offenses dating back to 2014 connected to his service as director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, his work on the White House Coronavirus Task Force and his service as Biden’s chief medical adviser.

The pardon was real and unusually broad, but Biden publicly explained his reasoning at the time, saying Fauci and others were being threatened with what Biden described as politically motivated investigations and prosecutions.

Fauci said in 2025 that the White House approached him about the pardon and that he had not requested it.

Documents reported this week show Fauci had an attorney send Biden’s White House counsel a letter accepting the pardon. That letter thanked Biden for his “consideration and his action” but does not establish that Fauci paid for the pardon.

Martin’s comments come as the presidential pardon process itself is under scrutiny.

A recent “60 Minutes” investigation examined an emerging industry of pardon brokers and lobbyists who charge substantial fees while claiming they can help clients get their cases in front of people close to President Donald Trump. CBS reported that such payments go to intermediaries rather than the president and did not establish that Trump was selling pardons.

Martin, who served as Trump’s pardon attorney from 2025 until 2026, has rejected suggestions that Trump’s pardon operation amounted to a pay-for-clemency system.

Now he’s turning the question around on Biden’s pardon of Fauci.

And he’s doing it with one very loaded question.
