Taxpayers paid for a Trump TV ad — and the soundtrack keeps singing ‘Love me’

by

BS BULLETIN:

  • A Trump-focused television spot airing on Fox News carries an unusual disclaimer: “Paid for by the U.S. government.”
  • The ad pairs images of President Donald Trump with JMSN’s “Love Me,” repeatedly landing on the words “love me.”
  • It even includes Dana White’s glowing praise of Trump from the 2024 Republican National Convention.

Uncle Sam is buying television commercials now — and this one comes with a rather memorable soundtrack.

CBS News Miami investigative reporter Jim DeFede was watching Jesse Watters on Fox News when a commercial appeared featuring President Donald Trump.

Then DeFede noticed the fine print. “Paid for by the U.S. government.”

DeFede posted video of the spot Thursday morning and described it as looking like a campaign ad, pointing out that the soundtrack repeatedly sings “love me” while Trump appears on screen.

And, yes, that really is the song. The music is “Love Me” by singer-songwriter JMSN. As images of Trump flash across the screen, the repeated “love me” refrain plays underneath them.

The commercial isn’t subtle about its political message, either.

Trump is heard declaring:

“Together, we will defeat communism, socialism and Marxism in America.”

The spot also features the president saying America will never become a communist country.

Graphics tout administration accomplishments including tax cuts, American manufacturing and support for law enforcement.

Then comes another unusual ingredient for a government-paid advertisement: Dana White.

The UFC CEO appears in footage from his speech at the 2024 Republican National Convention, where he praised Trump as the toughest and most resilient person he had ever met and said nothing would stop Trump from fighting for the country.

That combination — Trump imagery, administration boasts, a convention endorsement and a soundtrack repeatedly pleading “love me” — immediately drew criticism from people who argued the commercial resembles political advertising rather than a conventional government public-service announcement.

The most important unanswered question may be sitting right there in the disclaimer. The available reporting confirms that the commercial says it was paid for by the U.S. government, but does not establish which federal agency purchased the airtime, how much was spent or which government program funded it.

Those are details worth knowing before anyone attaches a dollar figure to taxpayers’ tab.

MY QUICK TAKE

Forget the outrage for a second. I have a more basic question.

Who was sitting in the government advertising meeting when somebody said, “You know what this Trump commercial needs? A chorus singing ‘love me’ over and over”?

And who was the second person who said, “Perfect. Buy airtime.”
