Hillary Clinton lectures Trump about kicking out the press — Community Notes has a little reminder

by

BS BULLETIN:

  • Hillary Clinton accused President Trump of authoritarian behavior over restrictions on press access.
  • Community Notes responded with a reminder from Clinton’s own 2015 presidential campaign.
  • Her campaign really did deny the designated print pool reporter access to two New Hampshire events that day.

Hillary Clinton decided to lecture Donald Trump about press freedom.

Then Community Notes brought receipts. “Kicking out the free press is what fragile authoritarians do. Not American presidents,” Clinton wrote on X.

Underneath appeared a rather inconvenient bit of context:

“Hillary Clinton banned a reporter from her NH events.”

And this wasn’t some ancient internet rumor.

During Clinton’s 2015 presidential campaign, DailyMail.com’s David Martosko was the designated print pool reporter for a day of campaigning in New Hampshire.

Clinton’s campaign denied him access anyway — first to an event in Rochester and later to a Democratic fundraiser in Manchester. The traveling press pool complained at the time that attempts by a campaign to dictate who could serve in the pool were unacceptable.

A few weeks later, Clinton’s campaign produced another memorable press-freedom visual when aides literally used a rope to keep reporters away from her during a New Hampshire parade.

Eleven years later, Hillary decided to explain the proper treatment of reporters.

Community Notes apparently has a longer memory than politicians expect.
