Sometimes the argument against voter ID gets so progressive it circles all the way back around.

A viral street-interview video making the rounds this weekend asked several white liberal women to explain how requiring identification to vote “inspires racism.”

Then came the explanations.

According to the video, the women suggested Black Americans may struggle to get online, may not have data on their smartphones and may have difficulty obtaining identification.

The numbers make that argument considerably harder to sell.

Pew Research Center’s latest figures show 94% of Black adults use the internet, compared with 96% of white adults.

And this isn’t exactly a policy Black Americans have uniformly rejected.

Pew’s 2025 survey found at least seven in ten adults in every racial and ethnic group it measured supported requiring government-issued photo identification to vote.

The nationwide number was even higher: 83%.

So we have reached an interesting point in the voter-ID debate: defending Black voters apparently requires explaining that they can’t navigate the internet.

The internet may be surprised to hear it.
