by

BS BULLETIN:

  • Newly unsealed bodycam footage shows Luigi Mangione’s December 2024 arrest inside an Altoona, Pennsylvania, McDonald’s.
  • The footage captures officers going from a routine suspicious-person call to realizing who they believed was sitting in front of them.
  • After officers began finding items in Mangione’s belongings, one was caught on camera saying: “It’s f—king him.”

The public is getting a much fuller look at the moment a five-day manhunt came to an end inside a Pennsylvania McDonald’s.

Newly unsealed police bodycam footage shows Altoona officers approaching Luigi Mangione on Dec. 9, 2024, after an employee reported a customer who resembled the man then being sought in connection with the killing of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson.

One officer later testified that he did not expect the call to amount to much. Then Mangione lowered his mask. Officer Joseph Detwiler testified that he “knew it was him immediately.”

The footage shows Mangione initially identifying himself as “Mark Rosario” and presenting officers with identification bearing that name. Police handcuffed him and began searching his pockets and belongings.

That is when the encounter changed quickly. Video shows officers discovering a loaded gun magazine wrapped inside clothing in Mangione’s backpack.

“It’s f—king him,” an officer says.

Mangione was transported to the Altoona police station, where additional bodycam footage shows officers conducting a more extensive search of his backpack. Police recovered a 9mm firearm, silencer and notebook among the items inside. A New York judge later ruled that most of the evidence recovered during the arrest could be used in the state prosecution.

The footage had previously been shown in court during litigation over Mangione’s attempt to suppress evidence, but hours of video from eight Altoona officers have now been unsealed following a request by CNN.

Mangione pleaded guilty in federal court on Aug. 14 to charges stemming from Thompson’s Dec. 4, 2024 killing, admitting that he stalked and murdered the health insurance executive outside a Manhattan hotel.

He is scheduled for federal sentencing on Dec. 18.

His separate New York state murder case remains pending, with his attorneys seeking dismissal on double-jeopardy grounds following the federal guilty plea.
