TOTAL BS!
California Gov. Gavin Newsom temporarily rediscovered the United States on Monday after President Donald Trump suggested Iran could “take out” Los Angeles and San Diego.
Trump made the remark during a Nebraska rally while arguing over the cost of the Iran war, prompting Newsom to blast the president as “deranged and dangerous.”
Within minutes, California officials were reportedly reminding Washington that the state is, in fact, part of the country.
That required some quick adjustments in Sacramento.
Staffers were said to have pulled an American flag from storage while aides circulated a memo reminding state agencies that the federal government has an obligation to protect California from foreign attack.
The memo did not address California’s ongoing lawsuits against that same federal government.
One aide reportedly asked whether the state could continue fighting Washington in court while demanding Washington defend Los Angeles.
Legal counsel assured him that both activities could continue without interruption.
Newsom’s office also emphasized California’s importance to the United States, including its population, economy and major military installations.
That prompted another brief moment of confusion.
“Wait,” one staffer reportedly asked, “the American military is in San Diego?”
By afternoon, state officials had settled on a temporary policy: California remains fully part of the United States whenever missiles are involved.
All other disagreements with Washington will resume as scheduled.
TOTAL BS is SATIRE. The news is real. The TOTAL BS is intentional.
