Two angles show migrant gangbanger fleeing armed ICE agents before shots fired in NYC incident

by

BS BULLETIN:

  • Newly released surveillance footage shows the confrontation preceding Thursday’s ICE shooting in New York City — the critical sequence missing from earlier bodycam coverage.

  • The video shows armed plainclothes agents approaching Oscar Belgal’s SUV, one smashing the driver’s window as Belgal attempts to escape.

  • Federal officials say Belgal rammed ICE vehicles and endangered agents, but the released surveillance footage does not establish the entire sequence.

The missing moments before a controversial ICE shooting in New York City are finally coming into view — and the new surveillance video shows a confrontation that escalated in seconds.

Footage released Friday shows two plainclothes federal agents rushing toward a gray Honda CR-V in Manhattan’s Marble Hill neighborhood with their guns drawn.

Behind the wheel was Oscar Belgal, a 28-year-old Dominican migrant with a grand larceny conviction, pending narcotics charges and alleged gang associations.

One agent approaches the driver’s side while another moves toward the front of the SUV.

Belgal begins backing out of his parking space. An agent strikes the driver’s window with his gun, shattering the glass, as the vehicle pulls away.

A second camera angle captures additional moments of the chaotic encounter.

Seconds later, Belgal was shot in the neck. Police recovered evidence indicating that at least one ICE officer fired seven rounds.

The footage is significant because the NYPD bodycam video released earlier showed officers treating Belgal after the shooting, not the confrontation leading up to it.

But there’s an important distinction: the newly publicized surveillance footage still doesn’t show every critical moment.

ICE officials say Belgal rammed federal vehicles while attempting to escape, causing agents to fear for their lives.

Marcos Charles, head of ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations, defended the agents’ actions Friday, saying they believed their lives and the public were in danger.

The available surveillance footage does not independently establish the alleged vehicle collisions or fully capture the gunfire.

Belgal’s 5-year-old son was inside the SUV during the encounter. The boy was unharmed.

Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin said the agents did not know the child was inside and blamed Belgal for endangering him by attempting to flee.

New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani, who unsuccessfully pressed President Trump and Mullin to release Belgal, has demanded that federal officials release the agents’ body-camera recordings.

Mullin confirmed those cameras were activated, but no release date has been announced.

Meanwhile, Belgal’s attorneys have challenged his detention, and a federal judge temporarily blocked his deportation while considering their petition.

The shooting remains under investigation by federal authorities, with the Bronx district attorney’s office also examining the incident.

The new video answers one question from yesterday’s reporting: what happened immediately before Belgal was shot?

It leaves another unresolved: what exactly happened during the seconds the surveillance cameras didn’t capture?

MY QUICK TAKE

Here’s what we know: ICE wasn’t conducting a random traffic stop. Agents were attempting to arrest a man with a criminal conviction who, according to federal officials, had previously evaded immigration enforcement.

But seven gunshots and a 5-year-old in the back seat make the actual sequence of events rather important.

The agents had their cameras running. Release the footage.

Washington and City Hall can argue afterward.
