Top Dems rage over raid of Omar’s home, as she responds with defiance

by

JUST A SHOT. I have things to do.

  • Federal Homeland Security Investigations agents searched Rep. Ilhan Omar’s Washington, D.C., residence Monday morning, October 12.

  • The Justice Department confirmed that agents executed a judicially authorized search warrant as part of an ongoing federal investigation.

  • House Democratic leaders Hakeem Jeffries, Katherine Clark and Pete Aguilar immediately accused the Trump administration of weaponizing federal law enforcement against a political opponent.

  • With the midterm elections less than a month away, Democrats are demanding answers about why federal agents descended on a sitting congresswoman’s home.

  • The Justice Department has not publicly disclosed what investigators were searching for or whether Omar is personally suspected of wrongdoing.

ALL THE BS. I’ve got time.

Federal agents raided Democratic Rep. Ilhan Omar’s Washington, D.C., home Monday morning, triggering an explosive confrontation between House Democratic leaders and the Trump administration just weeks before the November midterm elections.

The Department of Homeland Security confirmed that its investigative arm, Homeland Security Investigations, carried out the search under a warrant authorized by a federal judge.

“Today in the Washington, D.C. area, Homeland Security Investigations executed a judicially authorized search warrant secured by the Department of Justice,” a DOJ spokesperson told Fox News Digital.

“This enforcement action is part of an ongoing federal investigation,” the spokesperson added.

Video obtained by Fox News Digital reportedly showed agents at Omar’s residence.

But federal authorities offered few additional details, leaving unanswered questions about the nature of the investigation, what agents sought, and whether the Minnesota Democrat herself is a target.

Omar reacted in a social media post.

House Democratic leadership wasted little time responding.

In a joint statement Monday, House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, Democratic Whip Katherine Clark and Democratic Caucus Chairman Pete Aguilar condemned the raid and accused President Donald Trump’s administration of using federal law enforcement against political adversaries.

“The Trump administration’s raid on Congresswoman Ilhan Omar’s home is deeply disturbing and raises serious questions about the continued corrupt weaponization of the federal government against Donald Trump’s adversaries,” the three Democrats declared.

“For years, Donald Trump and far-right extremists have relentlessly targeted Congresswoman Omar with vile personal attacks and baseless accusations,” their statement continued.

The Democratic leaders also emphasized the timing.

“Now, less than 30 days until the midterm election, his violent mass deportation machine has descended upon the home of a duly elected Member of Congress and her family.”

“The American people deserve transparency, and we will deliver full accountability for the rogue abuse of power from the Department of Homeland Security and Department of Justice,” the statement concluded.

The search comes against a backdrop of increasingly bitter exchanges between Trump and Omar, one of his most outspoken critics in Congress. Trump has repeatedly criticized the Minnesota congresswoman over immigration, her Somali heritage, and allegations involving fraud in Minnesota.

In an earlier Truth Social post, Trump accused Omar of knowing about fraud involving Minnesota’s Somali community and suggested she belonged behind bars. “She should be in jail, or even a worse punishment, sent back to Somalia,” Trump wrote.

Omar, who was born in Somalia and became a naturalized American citizen in 2000, has consistently rejected Trump’s attacks.

The president has also publicly called for scrutiny of Omar’s finances, questioning how she and her husband accumulated substantial assets while she served in Congress.

In one post, Trump declared: “Congresswoman Ilhan Omar is worth over $30 Million Dollars.” “There is no way such wealth could have been accumulated, legally, while being paid the salary of a politician,” he contended.

Trump demanded an investigation into what he called “Financial and Political Crimes.”

Omar’s congressional financial disclosures have listed significant business interests associated with her husband. Whether Monday’s search has any connection to those financial questions, Minnesota’s fraud investigations, or some other matter remains unknown.

The existence of a judicially authorized warrant means a judge approved a search based on the required legal showing.

For Democrats, the raid is already being framed as a potential abuse of presidential power. For the Justice Department, the publicly stated position remains that agents executed a lawful warrant in an ongoing investigation.

The next major development may come when federal authorities disclose what prompted the search — and whether the investigation will produce charges.

Omar’s declaration that she would not be silenced quickly produced an awkward twist of its own.

In her response to the raid, the congresswoman accused Trump of political intimidation and vowed, “I will not be silenced.” But as Twitchy pointed out, replies to her X post were turned off, preventing ordinary users from responding directly. One critic, posting as JMD, observed, “She won’t be silenced yet she turns her comments off.” Conservative commentator Dustin Grage also joined the mockery, questioning Omar’s apparent reluctance to hear from the public. So Omar was determined to make her voice heard. Apparently, everyone else’s was optional.

MY QUICK TAKE

Typical. A sitting congresswoman gets a visit from federal agents, and Washington immediately splits into two camps: one demanding answers about the raid, the other demanding answers about the congresswoman. Meanwhile, the people who actually know what the investigation is about aren’t talking.
