THE DAILY BS: HOW MUCH CAN YOU HANDLE?

SPARE ME THE BS (I’ve got things to do)
- New Jersey Republican Justin Murphy told Trump to put on his cowboy hat and “kick some ass” in Iran during a debate with Sen. Cory Booker.
- The audience applauded, Booker responded with a stunned-sounding “Wow,” and the split-screen footage went viral.
- X users mocked Booker’s expressions while others joked that Murphy’s impressive hair deserved its own campaign.
LAY IT ON ME (I’ve got time)
Republican Justin Murphy may not have the name recognition of Sen. Cory Booker, but one answer during their New Jersey Senate debate has given the GOP challenger something money can’t always buy: a viral moment that people actually want to watch.
And judging by the split-screen footage, Booker wasn’t quite prepared for what came next.
During the October 8 debate at Rider University, moderator David Wildstein asked Murphy what advice he would give President Donald Trump about the war with Iran.
Murphy, a Navy veteran, attorney and former deputy mayor of Tabernacle, didn’t hesitate.
“Finish it,” he replied.
“Finish that war in a positive manner. We can’t wait halfway through and decide we don’t want to do this anymore.”
FINISH IT: Republican Senate challenger Justin Murphy drew loud applause at a New Jersey debate when asked what he’d tell Trump about the Iran war — delivering a two-word answer as Sen. Cory Booker shook his head on the split screen.
Murphy, a former deputy mayor from the Pine Barrens, urged Trump to “put your cowboy hat on and get out there and kick some a–,” calling Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps a “radical terrorist organization” that has deprived the Persian people of a decent life for decades.
Booker fired back, blasting Murphy’s stance as “yahoo cowboy foreign policy” that has “mired us in Middle East war after Middle East war” and drained the U.S. treasury.
The exchange circulated online, including in a clip paired with Creedence Clearwater Revival’s Vietnam-era anthem “Fortunate Son.”

Murphy then launched into an indictment of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, describing it as a terrorist organization responsible for decades of violence and repression.
“They are a cancer on human existence,” he declared.
Recalling the 1979 seizure of the American Embassy in Tehran and the 444-day hostage crisis, Murphy argued that the Iranian regime had inflicted suffering for far too long.
“Four decades is enough. The Iranian people have suffered enough,” he said.
Then came the line that sent the clip racing around social media.
“Mr. President, put your cowboy hat on and get out there and kick some ass and get this done and done right.”
The audience erupted in applause.
Throughout Murphy’s response, the broadcast’s split-screen showed Booker looking down, shaking his head, pursing his lips and raising his eyebrows. Afterward, Booker opened with a pointed “Wow.”
The Democratic incumbent rejected Murphy’s approach, warning against what he characterized as reckless, cowboy-style foreign policy that could drag the United States into another costly Middle East conflict.
But online, many viewers were paying as much attention to Booker’s face as to the policy disagreement.
The X account Live From Studio 6B shared the exchange with the caption: “GOP candidate for Senate Justin Murphy’s response to a question about Iran. Booker almost wet his pants.”
Another user, Stephe96, joked: “Booker looks like he’s ready to vote for Murphy!”
A commenter posting as CourtneyRigo argued that Booker’s expression appeared to change as Murphy continued speaking, suggesting the senator initially believed his challenger was making a mistake before recognizing the force of the answer.
“That answer wiped the smug smile off Booker’s face,” wrote ANiermeyer. “The cheering from the audience was great, too.”
Another user, Sgt. Hulka’s Big Toe, offered a shorter assessment: “Booker wasn’t laughing at end.”
Of course, this being the internet, the discussion eventually moved from Iran to something considerably less consequential: Murphy’s hair.
The Republican’s thick, carefully styled hair inspired a second wave of commentary, with users comparing his appearance to a 1980s Wall Street banker.
“Not only did he have a great answer, he has some fantastic hair! It’s wild!” wrote Mary bee.
Another user, Jesse Benson, went even further: “I’d vote for him based on his hair alone. Definite Power Coif.”
Murphy’s viral moment doesn’t erase the political realities of the race. Booker is a longtime incumbent running in a state where Republicans have not won a U.S. Senate election since 1972, and the Democrat entered the campaign with a substantial fundraising advantage.
Nor does the applause settle the underlying disagreement. Murphy argues that Trump should press the military campaign against Iran to a decisive conclusion. Booker says the administration has entered a dangerous conflict without a sufficient strategy or constitutional authorization.
But for a challenger who had received relatively little national attention, the debate produced a remarkable burst of publicity.
One fiery answer, one very animated senator and one spectacular head of hair were apparently all it took to get the internet talking about New Jersey’s Senate race.
