Trump calls Ilhan Omar ‘totally crooked’ after federal agents search her home in immigration-related probe

THE DAILY BS: HOW MUCH BS CAN YOU HANDLE?

SPARE ME THE BS. I’ve got things to do.

– Federal agents searched Democratic Rep. Ilhan Omar’s Washington, D.C., residence Monday morning under a court-authorized warrant connected to an ongoing criminal investigation. Reports indicate the inquiry involves her immigration history, although the Justice Department has not publicly confirmed the precise allegations.

– President Donald Trump called the Somalia-born Minnesota congresswoman “totally crooked” and a “terrible person,” but insisted he had nothing to do with the search and that the investigation was up to the Justice Department.

– Omar accused Trump of attempting to intimidate political opponents, declaring, “I will not be silenced.” The search came just weeks before the November midterm elections, as administration officials continued raising allegations about her immigration paperwork that Omar has denied.

MORE TO IT. I’ve got time.

Federal agents searched the Washington, D.C., home of Rep. Ilhan Omar on Monday, October 12, bringing a long-running controversy over the Minnesota Democrat’s immigration history into the center of a federal criminal investigation.

Hours later, President Donald Trump delivered a blistering assessment of the Somalia-born congresswoman while insisting that he played no role in the operation.

“Well, I understand they’re looking at her very carefully,” Trump told reporters outside the White House. “I’ve always found her to be totally crooked personally, but that has nothing to do with me.”

Homeland Security Investigations, the investigative arm of the Department of Homeland Security, carried out the search using a warrant obtained through the Justice Department.

The DOJ confirmed the action was part of an ongoing federal criminal investigation but did not publicly identify the suspected offense or disclose what agents were seeking.

CBS News reported, citing three sources familiar with the matter, that investigators were examining Omar’s immigration paperwork. The congresswoman has denied allegations of immigration fraud, and the existence of a search warrant does not establish criminal wrongdoing.

Trump, however, offered little sympathy.

“I think she’s a terrible person, just a complainer,” he said. “She comes from a country that is a non-country, and then she comes over here and she complains about our Constitution.”

He concluded: “I think she’s a terrible person, but that’s really up to the DOJ. I have nothing to do with it.”

The investigation did not emerge without warning.

In September, Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin said there was an ongoing investigation concerning whether Omar had provided false information on immigration documents. Border czar Tom Homan also publicly acknowledged that federal authorities were examining allegations involving the congresswoman.

Omar, who came to the United States as a refugee from Somalia and later became a naturalized American citizen, has repeatedly rejected accusations about her immigration history.

Following Monday’s search, she accused Trump of using federal law enforcement against a political adversary.

“For ten years, Trump has targeted me with baseless lies and smear campaigns,” Omar said in a statement. “This is just the latest escalation in his campaign of political intimidation.”

“I will not be silenced,” she added.

The political confrontation intensified Monday night at Trump’s rally in Youngstown, Ohio.

“She comes in from a country without laws, without police, without military,” Trump told the crowd. “All they do is shoot each other.”

He continued: “And she comes into our country and she says, ‘I have a constitutional right.’”

The crowd responded with chants of “Deport,” according to Associated Press reporting.

Democratic congressional leaders condemned the search, questioning its timing so close to the November elections and invoking longstanding Justice Department practices intended to limit overt investigative activity involving candidates immediately before an election.

The search also raised a consequential unanswered question: what evidence, if any, prompted investigators to seek the warrant?

The Justice Department has not publicly released the supporting affidavit or announced criminal charges against Omar.

For now, the government has confirmed an active criminal investigation and a judicially authorized search. Trump has made clear what he thinks of the congresswoman, while denying responsibility for the operation. Omar insists she is being politically targeted.

What investigators actually found remains undisclosed.

PROVE IT. I don’t trust anybody.
