Trump posts AI video of himself wrestling a tiger after deadly attack — media reaction turns ferocious

THE DAILY BS: HOW MUCH CAN YOU HANDLE?

SPARE ME THE BS (I’ve got things to do).

  • Trump shared footage of a fatal tiger attack in Britain, then posted an AI video showing himself wrestling and embracing a tiger.
  • The victim’s family and British police had appealed for people not to circulate footage of the deadly incident.
  • Piers Morgan called the AI video “appallingly tasteless,” while other critics unleashed a torrent of condemnation on social media.

LAY IT ON ME (I’ve got time).

President Donald Trump posted a video of himself wrestling a tiger, taming it and eventually giving it a hug. Unfortunately for the White House, the timing turned the artificial-intelligence production into a very real controversy.

Hours earlier, Trump had shared footage from a deadly tiger attack at Yorkshire Wildlife Park near Doncaster, England.

The victim, 23-year-old William Chapman, died Saturday after entering an enclosure containing a tiger named Altai.

“Don’t ever mess with nature! President DJT,” Trump wrote alongside the footage, which was subsequently amplified by the White House Rapid Response account.

Then came the AI production.

Shortly before midnight Tuesday, Trump posted a captionless video depicting himself confronting a tiger, chasing it, wrestling with it and eventually embracing the animal while “The Lion Sleeps Tonight” played.

The resemblance to the real incident, including a gesture made by Chapman in the original footage, attracted immediate criticism.

British journalist Piers Morgan was among the first prominent voices to object. “This is appallingly tasteless,” Morgan wrote on X. “Delete it, President @realDonaldTrump.”

Former Washington, DC, commissioner Patricia Eguino declared: “His brain is cooked.”

Journalist Aaron Rupar questioned what people would think if an elderly relative posted similar material. “If an elderly relative of yours was posting videos like this on Facebook, you’d do a wellness check,” Rupar wrote, adding that “the president is a sick man.”

The account Republicans Against Trump offered a shorter response: “Someone take Grandpa’s phone away.”

British broadcaster Kay Burley simply wrote: “This is not OK.”

And commentator Ben Sixsmith questioned the mindset behind watching footage of a deadly attack and imagining a version in which the viewer overpowers the tiger and earns its affection.

There was a particularly painful dimension to the controversy. Chapman’s family had already expressed distress over the circulation of the footage.

His relatives described him as a bright and engaging young man who had struggled with severe mental illness. They asked people to stop distributing the material and respect their privacy.

South Yorkshire Police had also urged the public not to share footage of the attack.

The tiger video was not Trump’s only animal-themed social-media offering. He also shared footage involving big-cat attacks and another clip featuring a lion confronting hyenas, accompanied by images of political opponents.

The posting spree followed Trump’s campaign appearance Tuesday in Wasilla, Alaska.

Yorkshire Wildlife Park has said the tiger will not be euthanized. Authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding Chapman’s death.

Trump did not explain the purpose of the AI video, leaving viewers to interpret the unusual juxtaposition for themselves.

The president has never been shy about posting provocative memes. This time, however, the controversy wasn’t just about whether the joke landed. It was about whether a tragedy involving a real family should have become material for an AI spectacle in the first place.

Some X users saw it differently and defended Trump for sharing the video. “It’s an AI video someone made of trump playing with a tiger and he probably found it funny. It’s not that serious,” one reply said.

“The funny thing is that you applauded Charlie Kirk’s assassination, you disgusting pig,” posted another in response to Harry Sisson, who attacked Trump as “demented and mentally unwell for the video.”

One thing is certain: nobody needed artificial intelligence to manufacture the outrage that followed. I guess dark humor is officially dead.
