THE DAILY BS: HOW MUCH CAN YOU HANDLE?

SPARE ME THE BS (I’ve got things to do).
- Rashida Tlaib denounced the federal search of Ilhan Omar’s home as politically motivated and said it was painful to see her family targeted.
- X users fired back with comparisons to the FBI search of Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate and the arrest of Roger Stone.
- The online argument quickly became a familiar one: Does “nobody is above the law” apply when the investigation involves a political ally?
LAY IT ON ME (I’ve got time).
Rep. Rashida Tlaib wants Americans to understand how upsetting it is when federal agents search the home of a political figure.
Unfortunately for the Michigan Democrat, X users remember a certain Florida estate called Mar-a-Lago.
Tlaib’s emotional defense of fellow Squad member Ilhan Omar has set off a fresh round of online criticism, with commenters revisiting the FBI’s 2022 search of Donald Trump’s residence and asking whether outrage over federal investigations depends on whose front door gets a knock.
The controversy began after Homeland Security Investigations agents executed a court-authorized search warrant at Omar’s Washington-area home Monday. Federal officials confirmed an ongoing investigation but have not publicly detailed the evidence behind the search. Omar has denied wrongdoing, and no charges have been announced.
Tlaib immediately condemned the operation.
“DHS raiding a member of congress’s home is exactly what a fascist police state does,” she wrote on X. “This president should not be able to weaponize the federal government against political enemies. I stand with Ilhan.”

This president should not be able to weaponize the federal government against political enemies.
I stand with Ilhan.

At a Wednesday appearance in Inkster, Michigan, Tlaib expanded on her objections, arguing that Omar was being targeted because of her political views and identity.
“I think people know that a few weeks before the election, that to go and target someone that’s been targeted by this administration for a long time,” Tlaib said.
She also pointed to Omar’s Somali background, refugee history and Muslim faith, saying those characteristics had been used against her.
“Even though she’s small, I know she’s tough,” Tlaib said. “But it is hard for me to see her family being targeted like this.”
That last remark became the centerpiece of a mocking X post shared by Karli Bonne, who introduced the video with a drawn-out “Wahaaaaaaaaaa.”

The replies were not exactly overflowing with sympathy.
“Yeah, but when it happened to Trump, there was no outrage,” wrote an account identified as mr49ers. “These people are such hypocrites. It makes no sense. They say this is injustice, but when it happened to Trump, they were saying nobody’s above the law.”
Another user, posting as freeamerican, asked whether Tlaib had also objected when Trump’s home was searched and Roger Stone was arrested early in the morning.
Cheryl C offered a sharper version of the same criticism, accusing Tlaib of having gloated when authorities investigated Trump and warning that the political tables had turned.
Comments expose the question driving the backlash: If a search warrant is automatically political persecution when it targets a Democrat, what standard should apply when investigators arrive at a Republican’s home?
Omar’s office called the raid an “outrageous abuse of power” and insisted that the congresswoman had done nothing wrong. Trump denied directing the operation, while continuing to criticize Omar publicly.
Tlaib argues the timing, just weeks before the midterms, points to political intimidation. Her critics see something else: a familiar Washington habit of defending law enforcement when it pursues the other side and questioning its legitimacy when it comes for an ally.
And that’s why the video took off. Tlaib wanted the conversation to be about sympathy for Omar.
X wanted to talk about consistency.
Apparently, the phrase “nobody is above the law” comes with a footnote in Washington: Terms and conditions may vary depending on who answers the door.
