Homan says feds have a ‘strong case,’ and Ilhan Omar could lose U.S. citizenship: ‘We’ve done it before’

THE DAILY BS: HOW MUCH CAN YOU HANDLE?

SPARE ME THE BS (I’ve got things to do).

  • Border czar Tom Homan says Rep. Ilhan Omar could be stripped of her U.S. citizenship and potentially deported if federal investigators establish immigration fraud.
  • Homan says authorities have a “strong case” as investigators examine immigration records involving Omar and her late father.
  • Omar denies wrongdoing and calls the investigation political intimidation.

LAY IT ON ME (I’ve got time).

The federal investigation into Rep. Ilhan Omar’s immigration history has taken another significant turn.

White House border czar Tom Homan says the Minnesota Democrat could ultimately lose her American citizenship — and face deportation.

And he made clear that the government has pursued such cases before.

Appearing Saturday on Fox News’ “The Big Weekend Show,” Homan discussed the investigation following a federal search of Omar’s Washington, D.C., home earlier in the week.

Investigators are reportedly examining whether Omar and her late father provided inaccurate information about her birth year or other details during the immigration process after their family fled Somalia in the 1990s.

Homan said investigators have a “strong case,” although he declined to reveal the underlying evidence.

Host Tomi Lahren asked whether proven immigration fraud could lead to Omar being denaturalized and deported.

“Of course,” Homan answered.

“If you lie during the naturalization process, there is a process to denaturalize somebody. We’ve done it before, it’s a long, tedious process, but it’s been done before.”

He added that he had personally participated in previous denaturalization investigations and said the same outcome could follow for Omar if the evidence supported it.

“She’ll be held to the same standards you and I are held: if she violated the law, then she should be held accountable,” Homan said.

That is a significant statement about a sitting member of Congress.

Under federal law, the government must establish grounds such as illegally obtaining naturalization or concealing a material fact.  Even a successful denaturalization case would not automatically mean immediate deportation.

Omar, who came to the United States as a Somali refugee and became a citizen in 2000, has consistently denied immigration fraud.

Following the search of her home, she accused President Trump of trying to “target political enemies and weaponize federal law enforcement.”

“For ten years, Trump has targeted me with baseless lies and smear campaigns,” Omar wrote.

“I will not be silenced.”
