Democrat admits to three beers before viral ‘we have guns too’ rant vowing to fire all Republicans

THE DAILY BS: HOW MUCH CAN YOU HANDLE?

SPARE ME THE BS (I’ve got things to do).

  • Indiana Democrat Jaime West admitted drinking three beers before the televised appearance that made her a viral sensation.
  • The Fayette County Council candidate initially told Piers Morgan she had one beer, then a couple, before settling on three.
  • West stood by her attacks on Republicans, including her declaration that she would fire them if elected.

LAY IT ON ME (I’ve got time).

Jaime West has supplied the missing ingredient in her viral campaign performance: three beers. And apparently, a room full of Republicans was the occasion that called for them.

The Democratic candidate for Fayette County Council’s District 4 in Indiana appeared on Piers Morgan Uncensored Monday to discuss the televised forum where she slurred through attacks on Republicans and closed with a warning about guns.

Morgan asked whether she had been drinking. The answer developed in stages.

“I had a Coors Light. I had a beer,” West said.

Then came: “Maybe a couple.”

Finally: “Alright, three.”

West explained: “I was nervous, OK!” She said she had been heading into a room full of Republicans.

One imagines the Republicans became considerably more nervous after hearing her closing statement.

In the original forum, West announced that an unpopular decision she would make was “Firing all Republicans.” Asked for a final message to voters, she offered: “We have guns too.”

The interview had already attracted national attention before Monday’s admission. Now the candidate was explaining both the delivery and the refreshments.

“What do you want me to say, man? I had three beers,” she told Morgan.

West maintained that she knew Indiana politics and hadn’t been excessively intoxicated. Asked whether she had been drinking before speaking with Morgan, she said no.

And this was no grand apology tour. She continued defending her hostility toward Republicans rather than taking back the political remarks that made the first appearance famous.

West is seeking a county council seat in the November 3 election. She has now given voters a campaign platform, a viral video and a beverage count.

Most candidates spend October trying to make their message clearer. Hers came with a bar tab.
