THE DAILY BS: HOW MUCH CAN YOU HANDLE?

SPARE ME THE BS (I’ve got things to do).
- A Jefferson High School football player in Portland, Oregon, charged an opponent carrying the American flag during pregame introductions, knocking him and the flag to the turf.
- The Oregon School Activities Association confirmed the Jefferson player was ejected and did not participate in Friday night’s game.
- Portland Public Schools insists the hit had nothing to do with the flag, while a now-deleted social media post blamed disrespect toward Jefferson during its homecoming festivities.
LAY IT ON ME (I’ve got time).
Here’s a football highlight you probably won’t see featured in the Friday Night Lights Hall of Fame.
A high school football player in Portland, Oregon, came charging across the field before kickoff Friday night and flattened an opposing player carrying the American flag.
The victim wasn’t running a pass route. He wasn’t carrying the football. He was leading his team onto the field with Old Glory.
And the player delivering the hit?
He plays for the Jefferson Democrats.
Yes, that’s actually the school’s team name. The Jefferson Democrats.
Somewhere, a political cartoonist just threw away his sketchbook. Reality beat him to the punch.
The incident unfolded October 16 before Jefferson High School’s homecoming matchup against the Grant Generals.
Video shows Grant players jogging onto the field behind a teammate holding a large American flag. Suddenly, a Jefferson player charges toward the flag bearer and knocks him to the ground, sending the flag tumbling onto the turf.
The Jefferson player then gets up and moves toward the opposing players as tensions flare.
Football player for Jefferson High School (@PPSConnect) in Oregon AMBUSHED a player on the opposing team while he was carrying an American flag onto the field.
The team’s IG account then CELEBRATED the attack.
This is ASSAULT. He should be expelled.

There was no football involved, no play underway and certainly no whistle signaling the beginning of the game.
But apparently somebody decided the pregame introductions needed a little extra contact.
The video spread rapidly across social media, prompting questions about whether the flag itself had been the target.
Those questions intensified after an Instagram account using Jefferson football branding posted the clip with a caption that included the words “wasn’t feeling that American flag,” along with a laughing emoji.
Not exactly the sort of social media strategy you’d expect from a school hoping to keep the controversy under control.
The account later offered an explanation, saying the incident was not intended as disrespect toward the flag.
Instead, it accused Grant players and coaches of disrespecting Jefferson during an emotional night marking homecoming, senior recognition and what the account described as the final game on Jefferson Field.
“There was an option to go around the field, but they chose not to,” the statement said.
The account also claimed that people criticizing the incident lacked the full context of what had happened before the collision.
That may explain why tempers were running hot. It doesn’t change what the video shows: a player carrying the flag getting knocked down before the game even started.
And now the adults have entered the picture.
The Oregon School Activities Association confirmed that the Jefferson player was ejected and did not participate in the game.
“Rivalry game or not, there’s no place for this behavior before, during, or after an interscholastic contest,” the association told OutKick.
Portland Public Schools also addressed the incident, saying the student-athlete had allowed his emotions to override his judgment.
The district backed the decision to eject him and insisted the incident had “nothing whatsoever to do with the American flag.”
That’s the official position. But the earlier Instagram caption certainly didn’t help persuade the online crowd.
Meanwhile, OutKick reported that attempts to reach Jefferson athletic director Donnie Siel and principal Drake Shelton on Monday went unanswered.
The Instagram account that had circulated the video was subsequently deleted. Its connection to the official football program has also been disputed.
Oregon-based commentator Taren Feist, who helped circulate the footage, called the hit “Absolutely DESPICABLE” and demanded to know where the accountability was.
The incident has produced two separate arguments: whether the player was motivated by hostility toward the flag, and whether the collision deserved more discipline than an immediate ejection.
On the first question, the school district says no. On the second, the OSAA has confirmed the ejection but has not publicly detailed any additional penalty.
There is also the matter of the actual football game, which eventually took place once everyone remembered why they had gathered at the stadium.
Grant defeated Jefferson 35-14.
