Rally backdrop turns into an Epstein protest—and Vance delivers the punch line

THE DAILY BS: HOW MUCH CAN YOU HANDLE?

SPARE ME THE BS (I’ve got things to do).

  • A protester seated directly behind Vice President JD Vance interrupted his Monday rally in Hendersonville, North Carolina, demanding the Epstein files.
  • Security escorted the man away as the crowd booed and chanted USA.
  • Vance answered with a joke about illegal border crossings; Gavin Newsom’s press office quickly attacked the response.

LAY IT ON ME (I’ve got time).

The man demanding the Epstein files didn’t settle for shouting from the back of the hall. He was sitting directly behind the vice president.

JD Vance was speaking at a Republican campaign rally in Hendersonville, North Carolina, Monday when a man in the stage seating stood up and interrupted him.

“Release the Epstein files!” the protester shouted. “God bless our children!”

Security moved in, the crowd booed and chants of USA filled the room as the man was escorted away from the podium backdrop.

Somebody had managed to put the unscheduled guest commentator in the television shot.

Vance turned the interruption into an immigration punch line, telling the crowd he needed to amend an earlier statement.

“I said that we have had zero illegal border crossings in the United States of America,” he said.

Then came the kicker: “But one isn’t bad, right?”

The audience responded with laughter and cheers. Vance resumed attacking Democrats and their priorities rather than allowing the interruption to take over his speech.

The incident took place at Hyder Warehouse, where the vice president was campaigning ahead of the November 3 midterms.

The protester got his moment on camera. Vance got a laugh. And California’s governor’s press operation, naturally, got involved in a rally on the other side of the country.

Gavin Newsom’s office objected: “It’s insulting to suggest only ‘illegal immigrants’ care about justice for victims and accountability for perpetrators.”

The episode put a familiar demand into an especially awkward setting: a Republican campaign stage, with the vice president only a few feet away.

Calls for disclosure of Epstein-related records have followed the administration, including from people on the right. This interruption supplied another vivid clip for that running argument.
