THE DAILY BS: HOW MUCH CAN YOU HANDLE?

SPARE ME THE BS (I’ve got things to do).

  • Gurinder Gill allegedly told investigators ICE detained his wife while she checked their mail.
  • ICE told detectives no enforcement activity occurred at the Sacramento residence.
  • After Jasmine Gill’s burned remains were identified, authorities arrested her husband on a murder warrant.

LAY IT ON ME (I’ve got time).

When investigators asked about his missing wife, Gurinder Gill allegedly supplied an explanation ready-made for a political firestorm: ICE had taken her.

Detectives did something inconvenient for that account. They checked.

The Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office says immigration authorities confirmed there had been no enforcement activity at the couple’s residence. Gill now faces a murder charge in his wife’s death.

Jasmine Gill was last seen at her Sacramento home September 30. Her cousin reported her missing October 4.

During the initial inquiry, her husband claimed agents detained her while she was checking the mail, according to the sheriff’s office.

The mailbox story supplied a federal agency to blame. It did not supply a matching federal operation.

Detectives subsequently identified inconsistencies in his statements. They also learned that the couple were involved in an ongoing divorce and child-custody dispute.

Burned human remains discovered October 1 in neighboring El Dorado County were later identified as Jasmine’s.

Investigators obtained a murder warrant and arrested Gurinder Gill October 14. They also searched two residences associated with him.

Gill, 28, was booked into Sacramento County Main Jail and was being held without bail, authorities said. Jasmine was 30.

The sheriff’s account describes the investigation and arrest; prosecutors must prove the murder allegation in court.
