THE DAILY BS: HOW MUCH CAN YOU HANDLE?

SPARE ME THE BS (I’ve got things to do)

  • Actor Josh Duhamel urged Minnesota residents to vote, calling the state ‘God’s country’ and ‘absolutely worth saving.’
  • Duhamel did not endorse any candidate or party; supporters nonetheless interpreted his message in conflicting partisan ways.
  • The actor lives in North Dakota and spends time at a Minnesota cabin built as a family retreat.

LAY IT ON ME (I’ve got time)

Hollywood actor Josh Duhamel has a message for Minnesota voters: Your state is God’s country, it’s worth saving, and you’d better show up to vote.

He didn’t say which candidate to support. Naturally, his Instagram comment section immediately became a miniature political convention, complete with rival red and blue cheering sections.

‘It is God’s country. It is worth saving. It is absolutely worth saving,’ the ‘Transformers’ star declared in a video about the November 3 election. The man likes Minnesota — apparently a controversial position in the current political climate.

Duhamel called voting a ‘sacred duty’ and said he ‘would never tell you who to vote for.’ He urged followers to bring family and friends to the polls and participate. Some supporters interpreted the message as a cue to vote Republican; others insisted the state could only be saved by voting Democratic.

Politics has reached the point where saying you love your home state apparently requires a team-affiliation investigation. Somebody check whether the actor’s cabin has a party registration form.

Duhamel has spoken extensively about leaving Hollywood’s routine behind, living in North Dakota and spending family time at a remote Minnesota property. He has described building the cabin over years and wanting his children to experience outdoor activities and ordinary chores without constant screens.

That personal backstory gives context to his affectionate ‘God’s country’ description. Rather than issuing a detailed party endorsement, he was encouraging participation in the election and appreciation of a state he knows well.

He ended his message with support for the Minnesota Vikings — perhaps the clearest team endorsement in the entire video. Packers fans may dispute even that.

The controversy says at least as much about the audience as the celebrity: Duhamel said vote, and the comments promptly launched a spirited argument over what the word ‘save’ meant.
