“Fox & Friends” co-host Lawrence Jones unloaded on former President Barack Obama and former first lady Michelle Obama’s speeches at the Democratic National Convention (DNC) on Wednesday.
Jones said the Obamas’ speeches expressed a sense of false hope as President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris have been the ones in charge for the past three-and-a-half years, referring specifically to Michelle Obama’s statement that she had lost hope until Harris entered the race on July 21. The Fox News host pushed back against the idea that the American people’s sense of hopelessness is due to Republican nominee Donald Trump.
“I still think there is something to that hopelessness. But the American people are not hopeless because of Donald Trump. I think that’s where they’re missing the mark,” Jones said. “No matter how inspirational they are, how good the cadence is on the stage, you can’t dip BS in gold and expect the American people to buy it. Donald Trump hasn’t been in charge for the last four years, you think people are hopeless because of him? Maybe it’s because when they go to the grocery store, the prices are out of control.”
“Maybe it’s because they thought their kids would have access to the American Dream, but unfortunately, they’re not able to buy a house and they now have to take care of their kids and their grandchildren. There is a ton of hopelessness in America, but it has very little to do with Donald Trump,” Jones continued.

The Obamas both criticized Trump in their speeches, with Michelle accusing the former president of “failing upward.” Barack Obama said Trump is more interested in personal “gripes and grievances” than in the future of the U.S.
Co-host Steve Doocy pointed to the reported tension between Biden and the Obamas, as Barack Obama allegedly called on the president to drop out of the race from behind the scenes. Co-host Brian Kilmeade said Obama convinced Biden not to run for president in 2016, instead endorsing former Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton.
“I don’t know what it is, Lawrence, you want to break up with someone, make them your running mate,” Kilmeade said. “Al Gore and Bill Clinton don’t talk, Mike Pence and Donald Trump don’t talk, Joe Biden and Obama don’t talk.”
Michelle Obama notably did not mention Biden during her speech, though her husband offered praise for his former vice president’s leadership when he took the stage after her speech.
Fox News senior White House correspondent Jacqui Heinrich said Harris held a campaign event 90 miles away from the DNC while the Obamas took the stage due to the former president being on bad terms with the Biden-Harris administration.
