White House, Biden scramble to try to walk back sitting US president calling half of America ‘garbage’

by

President Joe Biden sent the White House into damage control when he sparked the fury of former President Donald Trump and his supporters.

In a speech to a Latino group. the 81-year-old lame-duck president referred to Trump supporters as “garbage,” setting off a scramble to clean up the mess by a White House spokesperson and even himself later when he attempted to clarify his remarks. Biden’s remarks Tuesday came as Vice President Kamala Harris was set to deliver her campaign’s closing speech in Washington, D.C.

“Just the other day, a speaker at his (Trump’s) rally called Puerto Rico a ‘floating island of garbage,'” Biden told a Latino advocacy group, referring to comedian Tony Hinchcliffe who made a joke at Trump’s New York City rally about Puerto Rico being an “island of garbage.”

“The only garbage I see floating out there is his supporters, his, his demonization of Latinos is unconscionable, and it’s un-American. It’s totally contrary to everything we’ve done, everything we’ve been,” Biden said.

White House spokesman Andrew Bates issued a statement and published a transcript showing an apostrophe in “supporter’s,” to contend Biden was referring to a just one supporter’s garbage – the comic Hinchcliffe.

The president also issued a statement trying to clean up the mess.

“Earlier today I referred to the hateful rhetoric about Puerto Rico spewed by Trump’s supporter at his Madison Square Garden rally as garbage—which is the only word I can think of to describe it,” he said. “His demonization of Latinos is unconscionable. That’s all I meant to say. The comments at that rally don’t reflect who we are as a nation.”

Trump reacted to the comment at his rally in Allentown, Pennsylvania, as Sen. Marco Rubio spoke, calling it worse than Hillary Clinton’s infamous “deplorable” insult during the 2016 campaign.

“Please forgive him for not knowing what he said,” Trump said. “These people are terrible, terrible, terrible to say a thing like that. But he really doesn’t know. He really honestly, he doesn’t. And I’m convinced that he likes me more than he likes Kamala. But that’s a terrible thing.”

Trump’s campaign reminded his supporters what Democrats think of them.

“Biden just called half of America ‘garbage,'” Tesla CEO Elon Musk reacted.

James Golden, aka Bo Snerdley, called out the Democrats as well.

Many were convinced Biden was deliberately sabotaging Harris’s campaign.
