Fox News anchor Martha MacCallum questioned Democratic Michigan Rep. Debbie Dingell on Thursday about whether she actually thinks former President Donald Trump would place her in an internment camp if he is reelected in November.
Dingell claimed on “The Lead with Jake Tapper” Monday that Trump “wants to start internment camps” and might place her “in one” due to being a political rival. MacCallum, on “The Story with Martha MacCallum,” asked Dingell why she held that view, with the representative initially calling it “a joke,” but then suggesting there was some truth to her comment.

“I will be serious and say I said that as a joke because I am reminding members, sort of as a joke, because the president has made it very clear he’s going after his political enemies, and it is well documented what he has gone after me on numerous times because he doesn’t agree with what I’ve said or done,” Dingell said. “I try to be respectful.”
MacCallum asked if Dingell was “really living in fear” that Trump would detain her in a camp.
“I have to say something to you, Martha, I don’t know what it means to be on his political enemy list. To be called the ‘enemy from within,’ when he has talked about using the military against his political enemies,” she answered. “I hope right now that, you know, on this show might even — do you want me to tell you the truth? I don’t know what he means sometimes when he says things.”
“Well, he has said also that he wants his success to be his revenge if he is reelected,” MacCallum responded.
Trump has repeatedly called his political opponents “the enemy from within,” but he recently denied he was “threatening anybody’” with his remarks during a Georgia town hall on “The Faulkner Focus.” However, Vice President Kamala Harris has said that Trump would seek revenge on his “enemies” if he wins a second term.
Harris currently holds slim leads over Trump in Michigan and Wisconsin, but the former president is ahead in the other five top battleground states, according to the RealClearPolling averages.
