An unexpected Christmas video from Governor Tim Walz and his wife Gwen baffled social media users who found much of it simply cringey.
“Remember to share holiday traditions like decorating the tree with your kids even if they’re out of town,” Walz captioned the video posted on X that was addressed to the couple’s daughter, Hope.
And while moments in the minute-long video seemed to mirror anyone’s parents showing off ornaments made by their children over the years, many felt there was just something “weird” about other noticeably awkward exchanges.

“Hey Hope. Mom and Dad here,” the failed vice presidential nominee began, joined by wife Gwen who said, “Hey Hoper girl” to their 23-year-old daughter.
“Finishing decorating the family tree in the living room of our family room here and it’s all of the handmade ornaments over the years,” the Democrat governor continued.”So we were thinking of you and I just want to show you a couple. We were cracking up about a couple of these.”
Why are they talking to her like she’s 3 years old?

They’re talking to their grown daughter like she’s a toddler

He proceeded to zoom in on some of the handcrafted decorations made by Hope and her brother Gus as the couple recalled details, with Tim Walz often speaking over Gwen as she commented.
Body language was off the chart every time Gwen would speak, Tim seemed to cut her off…..anyone else sense this?

Gwen Walz got weird again so Tim cut her off. 😂 pic.twitter.com/mCEcmtaPBM

Am I the only one that sees how Gwen is acting like one of Kristen Wiig’s SNL characters? It’s just a family video, but it’s funny. pic.twitter.com/FcxlyDB8gR

The “final one” was an angel tree topper made from a toilet paper roll. While parents and grandparents may chuckle at the familiar honors given to artwork and memories provided by kids over the years, the Walz tradition continued to provoke cringey vibes on social media.
Older people get confused with technology. I may not like his politics, but this was kinda sweet. It’s too bad he posted it online instead of sending it privately to his daughter.

Many questioned why Gwen Walz needed to note that the topper was being placed “not on a real tree but on this family tree.”
“Not on a real tree but on the family tree”. Why on earth would she need to say that?

While some X users tried to see the parent-vibe in the clip, others were not convinced.
The level of cringe is off of the charts.

They don’t even act like normal parents! What the heck is wrong with these weirdos?

The unbelievable talent of even making a Christmas tree cringe. How do these people make everything they touch, do, and say so cringe and fake? This actually takes effort for most of us. 🤔 pic.twitter.com/UtsYcJlghS

I started watching this earlier, but had to turn it off when I started hearing Gwen. Instant cringe.
