BREAKING: Trump axes Kamala Harris’s Secret Service protection ahead of book tour

by

President Donald J. Trump has officially revoked extended Secret Service protection for former Vice President Kamala Harris—a privilege quietly granted by Joe Biden during his final days in office.

The announcement came via a formal letter obtained by CNN, addressed to the Secretary of Homeland Security. Trump wrote:

“You are hereby authorized to discontinue any security-related procedures previously authorized by Executive Memorandum, beyond those required by law, for the following individual, effective September 1, 2025: Former Vice President Kamala D. Harris.”

Under federal law, former vice presidents receive Secret Service protection for six months following their departure from office. Harris’s standard coverage expired in July 2025. However, in a behind-the-scenes move, Biden reportedly extended her protection for a full additional year—without any public disclosure. That extension, now exposed, raised serious questions about transparency and whether Biden was using federal resources to shield political allies under the radar.

Trump’s bold reversal cuts off not only Harris’s 24/7 security detail but also the extensive surveillance, logistical coordination, and threat assessment operations provided by the Secret Service. In essence, Harris will now be afforded the same security status as any other private citizen.

The timing of the decision is particularly noteworthy. Harris is set to embark on a high-profile national book tour to promote her upcoming memoir 107 Days. Critics argue the taxpayer-funded protection would have essentially subsidized her promotional tour—a potential ethical quagmire, especially as rumors swirl about her future political ambitions.

Conservatives are hailing Trump’s move as a long-overdue stand against the bloated privileges enjoyed by the political elite. “Enough is enough,” said one senior GOP strategist. “The Secret Service is not a personal concierge service for Democrat figureheads.”

Meanwhile, the mainstream media is already spinning the story as an attack on Harris, despite the fact that the law does not entitle her to continued protection. This development puts a spotlight on the partisan double standards and executive overreach that plagued the Biden administration.

Harris’s extra protection was a backroom favor, and Trump is simply putting the Constitution and taxpayer interests first.

This story is developing—and no doubt the backlash from liberal pundits will be swift.

  1. Well done, Mr. President!
I continue to be impressed that the current administration is on top of all these moving parts. Cutting unnecessary spending everywhere, no matter how small is going to be the key to getting our country back on track.
