GOP lawmaker calls for lifelong social media ban for ghouls gloating over Charlie Kirk’s death

by

In response to the grotesque online celebrations following the tragic assassination of Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk, Louisiana Congressman Clay Higgins is taking a bold stand. The Republican representative issued a fiery statement on Thursday via X, pledging to use the full weight of his congressional authority to bring consequences to those cheering Kirk’s untimely death.

“I’m going to use Congressional authority and every influence with big tech platforms to mandate immediate ban for life of every post or commenter that belittled the assassination of Charlie Kirk,” Higgins stated. His message was clear: if you glorified or mocked the murder of a man who dedicated his life to defending American values on college campuses, your online existence is on borrowed time.

Higgins didn’t mince words in painting a vivid picture of Kirk’s legacy—calling him “a beautiful young man who dedicated his whole life to delivering respectful conservative truth into the hearts of liberal enclave universities, armed only with a Bible and a microphone and a Constitution.”

The congressman went even further, vowing that mere online bans would not suffice. He promised a relentless campaign to cancel—in the truest sense—those who took part in gleeful mockery of Kirk’s assassination. “I’m also going after their business licenses and permitting, their businesses will be blacklisted aggressively, they should be kicked from every school, and their drivers licenses should be revoked,” Higgins declared. “I’m basically going to cancel with extreme prejudice these evil, sick animals who celebrated Charlie Kirk’s assassination. I’m starting that today. That is all.”

While the vitriol from the radical left in response to Kirk’s death is both unsurprising and disgusting, there is an ongoing debate—even among conservatives—about whether Higgins’ approach aligns with the values Kirk himself championed.

The late Charlie Kirk, a staunch First Amendment advocate, was known for his willingness to let even his harshest critics speak freely. In a memorable appearance earlier this year at the Oxford Union in the UK, Kirk passionately defended free speech, including the most offensive or controversial kinds.

“You should be allowed to say outrageous things,” Kirk told the audience. “You should be allowed to say contrarian things. Free speech is a birthright that you gave us, and you guys decided not to codify it and now, poof! It is basically gone.”

This deep commitment to free expression—even when unpopular—has led some of Kirk’s own fans and allies to voice concern about Higgins’ crusade.

“I hear you Rep. Clay Higgins, but Charlie Kirk would not have wanted that,” wrote one supporter. “I do not want that. Conservatives do not want that. Charlie believed in free speech. Even vile speech.”

Another echoed the sentiment, warning, “Popular speech does not need to be protected. If we start policing speech where does it end?”

Perhaps the most pointed response came from a fan who understood the full depth of Kirk’s values: “Charlie Kirk would be the first to call you out on how stupid this is. The man opened the mic for all to speak, even if they hated his guts… For you to silence people in his name is a desecration to his legacy.”

Still, Higgins’ frustration resonates with a large part of the conservative base that has had enough of the double standards in tech censorship and the unchecked cruelty of the radical left. To them, Higgins represents a long-overdue counterattack in the culture war, standing up for the dignity of one of the right’s brightest voices—even in death.
