A Toronto public school teacher has been placed on leave after multiple reports surfaced alleging he showed a disturbing video of conservative commentator Charlie Kirk’s assassination to a classroom of 10-year-old students—while delivering a politically charged lecture condemning Kirk and praising radical ideologies.
The Toronto District School Board (TDSB) confirmed that the teacher, whose name has not yet been released, has been relieved of all teaching duties as an internal investigation is underway. The incident occurred at Corvette Junior Public School, located in Scarborough, and has sparked public outrage both locally and internationally.
The video, which shows the violent and fatal shooting of Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk, went viral on social media shortly after the attack in early September. According to reports first published in the Toronto Sun, the teacher allegedly played the footage multiple times during class and told his Grade 5 students that Kirk “deserved to die” due to his conservative views. The teacher is also accused of promoting far-left ideologies during the same lesson.
“While playing this video repeatedly, he gave a speech to his students regarding anti-fascism, anti-trans [activism], and how Charlie Kirk deserved for this to occur,” said a source close to the situation, as quoted by the Toronto Sun.
Following the incident, several students went home visibly shaken and traumatized. Parents immediately contacted the school to express their outrage and concern, stating that their children had been forced to witness graphic violence without prior warning, consent, or context.
In response to the growing backlash, the school sent a letter to parents acknowledging the seriousness of the situation. The letter confirmed that a non-homeroom staff member had shown a portion of a violent video in connection to discussions about a recent event in the United States.
“While an investigation must still be conducted to learn all of the details, the report of this incident is extremely troubling and completely unacceptable,” the school wrote in its official communication.
The teacher in question has been removed from the classroom and will not return during the investigation. Additionally, the school has made social workers available to help support any students who were affected by the traumatic content.
“This is not just a lapse in judgment,” said one concerned parent on social media. “This is indoctrination. This is trauma. And this is happening in our schools now.”
Public reaction has been swift and divided. While most parents and educators are calling for the teacher’s permanent dismissal, some far-left voices on social media have attempted to justify the teacher’s actions, highlighting Kirk’s political stances as somehow warranting such treatment.
However, even among liberal commentators, there is growing concern about the ethical implications of exposing children to explicit violence, regardless of political context.
“A line was clearly crossed,” said another local parent. “We trust schools with our children’s mental and emotional safety. That trust was violated.”
While the TDSB says the investigation is ongoing, many parents and community leaders are demanding transparency, accountability, and policy changes to ensure such an event can never happen again.
