A Republican lawmaker in Florida has introduced legislation that would require public colleges and universities across the state to rename major campus roads after the Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk. The bill packs a punch — if the schools refuse, their state funding could be cut.
House Bill 113, filed by State Rep. Kevin Steele (R-Dade City), lays out a clear directive: each Florida college and university must designate a specific campus road as “Charles James Kirk Road” — a tribute to a man who, until his tragic death, was one of America’s fiercest advocates for liberty, free markets, and common sense on campus.
Kirk, just 31 years old, was speaking at Utah Valley University on September 10 when he was senselessly gunned down. Authorities arrested 22-year-old Tyler Robinson, who is now facing seven criminal charges, including the capital felony of aggravated murder. While many on the Left have remained disturbingly quiet or content with the incident, conservatives across the country have rallied to honor Kirk’s memory.
Florida has already seen local efforts to commemorate Kirk. In Lake County, commissioners recently voted to rename a road the Charlie Kirk Memorial Highway, despite noisy opposition from the usual crowd of progressive detractors.
Rep. Steele — no stranger to standing firm on conservative values — is not backing down. In early 2024, he drew national attention for championing a reform to Florida’s child labor laws, arguing that young people benefit from hard work and responsibility. That bill passed, and Governor Ron DeSantis signed it into law in March.
With HB 113, Steele is again challenging the status quo. The legislation mandates that each public college or university in the state rename a prominent road on campus in Kirk’s honor — and it lists exactly which roads are to be redesignated. The message is simple: honor this conservative icon or risk losing funding.
The bill also breaks with typical legislative timelines — if passed, it takes effect immediately, signaling its importance. “State funds shall be withheld from any state university or Florida College System institution whose board of trustees fails to redesignate the roadway…within 90 days,” the bill warns.

How stupid.
