Sean “Diddy” Combs may have spent decades flaunting wealth and power, but now the embattled rapper-turned-felon is reportedly banking on one thing to avoid hard time: a presidential pardon from Donald J. Trump.
Yes, really.
President Trump confirmed Monday that Combs—also known as Puff Daddy—has indeed reached out seeking clemency following his recent conviction.
“A lot of people have asked me for pardons,” Trump stated from the Oval Office. “I call him Puff Daddy; he has asked me for a pardon.”
This isn’t the first time Trump’s been asked about it. When pressed during his trial in May by Fox News’ Peter Doocy, Trump remained measured. “I haven’t seen him,” he said. “I haven’t spoken to him for years… I don’t know. I would certainly look at the facts. If I think someone was mistreated, it wouldn’t matter whether they like me or don’t.”
Last Friday, Combs was sentenced to just over four years in federal prison after being convicted on charges related to transporting individuals for prostitution—an unglamorous end for a man once hailed as a hip-hop mogul.
Former federal prosecutor Neama Rahmani told Fox News Digital that Combs’ only real shot at avoiding years behind bars may be a presidential pardon. “This isn’t the end of the legal road for Diddy,” Rahmani said. “He can and will appeal, and he has arguments that the judge improperly calculated the guidelines and considered acquitted conduct.”
But Rahmani didn’t sugarcoat the strategy. “Expect a strong lobbying effort by Diddy’s team in the coming days and weeks. This story is far from over.”
In fact, reports of a potential pardon request have been floating around since May—long before the sentencing hammer dropped.
“It’s not the Combs trial team reaching out to Trump,” a source told Fox News Digital at the time. “Mr. Combs has many people in his orbit that are friendly with Trump and are advocating for him to be pardoned.”
The same source insisted that the legal team was staying focused on sentencing and not the “noise.” That “noise” is now headline news.
Combs, once hobnobbing with the political and entertainment elite, is now a convicted felon hoping to land at a relatively lenient federal facility: FCI Fort Dix in New Jersey.
His legal team made the request in a formal letter obtained by Fox News Digital, citing the rapper’s supposed “drug abuse issues” and the need for “family visitation and rehabilitative efforts.”
The letter read: “In order to address drug abuse issues and to maximize family visitation and rehabilitative efforts, we request that the Court strongly recommend to the Bureau of Prisons that Mr. Combs be placed at FCI Fort Dix for RDAP purposes and any other available educational and occupational programs.”
Translation: Diddy wants the softest landing possible.
His sentence includes 50 months in prison, five years of supervised release, and a $500,000 fine—a long fall for a man who once claimed to “run the city.”
During sentencing, Combs’ children delivered emotional statements, with courtroom sketches capturing the once-powerful music icon holding his face in his hands.
Now, all eyes are on Trump.
