Biden judge blocks Hegseth’s ‘war on woke’ thanks to school kids’ lawsuit with Cardi B cameo

by

Pete Hegseth, the Secretary of Defense, has spent the past year trying to do something radical—make the U.S. military focus on winning wars again. But one federal judge has decided that the armed forces need more Maya Angelou and Cardi B than discipline and deterrence.

Judge Patricia Giles, a Biden appointee, ruled that Hegseth violated students’ First Amendment rights by removing hundreds of so-called “woke” books from libraries in military schools. You read that right: the Pentagon is now being forced to restock titles like White Fragility and Was the Cat in the Hat Black? on bases meant to train the children of soldiers—people who serve, deploy, and sometimes die for this country.

Apparently, in Giles’s view, it’s a constitutional crisis if the military doesn’t have enough race-theory paperbacks on the shelves. Never mind that these are Defense Department schools, funded and operated by taxpayers, and meant to prepare kids in military families for service, not sociology lectures. Hegseth’s attempt to pull divisive, ideology-driven material was an act of sanity in a bureaucracy that’s been spiraling into cultural absurdity for years.

Let’s not forget why Hegseth launched his “War on Woke” in the first place. Under the previous administration, the Pentagon became a bloated HR department obsessed with diversity scorecards and gender seminars while recruitment numbers tanked and readiness suffered. Hegseth came in with a mission—to rebuild a fighting force, not a feelings forum. He said it bluntly: “We became the woke department. But not anymore.”

But the Left can’t stand that. They can’t bear the idea of a military that values strength, unity, and discipline over identity politics. So the ACLU and its activist allies found a few students, filed a lawsuit, and found a friendly judge to slap Hegseth down. The same people who cheered when DEI bureaucrats canceled conservative speakers on campuses now suddenly pretend to care about “free speech” in the library. Spare us the hypocrisy.

The ruling itself reeks of judicial overreach. Giles limited her order to just five schools—because even she admitted the Supreme Court has already warned against these so-called “universal injunctions.” Translation: she knows this is shaky legal ground. But it’s still a win for the activist class. They’ll frame it as a triumph for “freedom to read,” when in truth it’s a victory for the bureaucracy of indoctrination.

While Hegseth is busy trying to fix troop fitness, restore standards, and keep national security priorities front and center, the court has chosen to micromanage library inventories. This is the state of the American left—more concerned with protecting White Fragility than protecting our country.

Critics love to call Hegseth an “empty suit” or a “grandstander.” But what’s actually grandstanding is a federal judge using her robe to block a Secretary of Defense who’s trying to re-establish military toughness. It’s telling that the same political establishment that yawned when the Pentagon held drag shows on bases is now clutching pearls over the loss of a few ideological books.

If Hegseth’s vision of the “Department of War” offends the woke class, that’s probably because it reminds them what the military is supposed to be: a lethal, disciplined, unapologetically American force. The judge’s ruling might please the ACLU and a few Beltway journalists, but it’s a gut punch to every parent, soldier, and patriot who’s tired of watching the armed forces turned into a social experiment.

At the end of the day, this case isn’t about library books—it’s about who runs the military. Is it elected leadership committed to rebuilding strength and deterrence, or unelected judges eager to score political points? Pete Hegseth is trying to restore a warrior culture; Judge Giles is trying to restore wokeness. America will have to decide which one it wants leading the next fight.
