THE DAILY BS: HOW MUCH CAN YOU HANDLE?

SPARE ME THE BS (I’ve got things to do)

  • Country star Tim McGraw said he attended Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s wedding with wife Faith Hill, but denied rumors that he performed.
  • “I didn’t perform at her wedding. That was a rumor,” McGraw told Esquire, reminding readers that the internet isn’t always right.

LAY IT ON ME (I’ve got time)

Tim McGraw has cleared up a rumor surrounding Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s wedding: he attended, but he did not sing.

“I didn’t perform at her wedding,” McGraw told Esquire. “That was a rumor.”

He added a line that belongs above every social-media feed: “Surprise! The internet is not always correct.”

McGraw’s connection to Swift goes back to the beginning of her career. Her 2006 debut single was titled “Tim McGraw,” and she later toured with McGraw and his wife, Faith Hill. The country star recalled how the young Swift asked thoughtful questions about the music business.

The two also worked together on McGraw’s “Highway Don’t Care,” which featured Swift and Keith Urban. McGraw praised Swift’s gift for connecting with listeners across generations and spoke warmly about Kelce.

But the more lasting part of his interview concerned marriage. McGraw and Hill have been married for three decades, and he said enduring relationships depend on deciding that the marriage is worth working through disagreements.

“Just a commitment that you want it to work,” he said. Even difficult stretches, he explained, are not automatically a reason to leave. “There are times you don’t get along … but that’s not a reason to walk out the door.”

McGraw also described one of the unexpected pleasures of a long marriage: “You get the chance to fall in love with a new person every so often.”

So the wedding-performance rumor may have been wrong. But McGraw’s reflections on a long marriage offered something considerably more useful than another celebrity cameo.
