A fresh wave of outrage is rippling across progressive circles after officials inside the Department of Health and Human Services quietly updated the hallway portrait of President Joe Biden’s former assistant secretary for health, Admiral Rachel Levine—restoring the name Richard Levine, the one the 68-year-old was given at birth.
The portrait hangs in the Humphrey Building in Washington, D.C., and has been displayed since Levine became the first transgender woman confirmed by the Senate in 2021. But after four turbulent years shaping Biden’s health agenda, staff placed a typed label beneath the frame listing Levine’s birth name and years of service—a simple factual correction that the left instantly declared an act of hatred.
HHS press secretary Emily Hilliard didn’t mince words about the administration’s stance. “We remain committed to reversing harmful policies enacted by Levine and ensuring that biological reality guides our approach to public health,” she told the Daily Mail, adding pointedly, “Dr. Levine’s time here will be looked upon as a sad footnote in the otherwise storied history of this department.”
Cue meltdown.
Levine’s spokesperson, Adrian Shanker, blasted the move as an act “of bigotry against her,” and insisted it happened during the government shutdown—apparently the newest frontier in culture-war conspiracy theories.
Online activists went into full performative outrage mode. One user screeched, “Petty lowlife pieces of s*… Does anyone know how lucky this Nation is to have the service of someone who went through the trauma of transitioning, while also making the rank of Admiral?”** Another keyboard warrior chimed in, “what a group of malevolent s*bags.”** And of course, no left-wing meltdown is complete without blaming Republicans: “Always keep in mind: The only reason stuff like this happens is because the Republican Party is ok with it… Deplorable indeed.”
Levine herself took the high-shrug approach, telling NPR she was grateful for the chance to serve the American people and would not comment on this sort of “petty action.”
Not everyone inside the building approved of the update. One anonymous HHS staffer—always anonymous, always conveniently progressive—said the change was “disrespectful” and supposedly reinforces “the erasure of transgender individuals.”
Meanwhile, the Biden-era appointee has already been replaced. The Senate confirmed President Trump’s choice, Admiral Brian Christine, a 61-year-old Alabama urologist, in October. Christine steps into the role as the new administration moves quickly to restore biological-reality-based federal policy, including through the Departments of Justice, Health, and Education.
During the 2024 campaign, Trump made no secret of his opposition to radical gender ideology—and yes, he used photos of Levine in negative ads. But voters overwhelmingly responded to his message, and the shake-up inside HHS is the predictable result of a nation wanting a reset.
Now the left is suddenly furious because a portrait label tells the truth.
In government buildings, as in biology class, facts have a stubborn way of resurfacing.

First off, the portrait itself would be enough to gag a maggot. Who cares if he/she/it is named Richard or Rachel or Quasi Moto for that matter.
