Cable news found a new way to turn a weekend controversy into must-see television.
Navarro: When there is Democrat back in the White House and they invite Robert De Niro and he says “Fuck Trump,” or what Melania Trump did, I don’t want anybody who has remained silent right now saying a thing..

During a heated segment on CNN’s “NewsNight,” commentator Ana Navarro launched into an expletive-laced defense of former First Lady Michelle Obama after recent remarks from a UFC fighter sparked another round of online debate and partisan outrage. Before long, Navarro had expanded her target list to include Donald Trump, his supporters and even actor Robert De Niro’s role in America’s never-ending political culture war.
Navarro argued that conservatives who are upset about anti-Trump rhetoric have little standing to complain after years of attacks directed at Democrats and public figures on the left. Referencing a hypothetical future Democratic administration, she suggested that critics who remain silent today shouldn’t suddenly object if celebrities such as Robert De Niro return to the White House and launch into anti-Trump commentary.
The remarks quickly lit up social media, where reactions fell along familiar partisan lines. Supporters praised Navarro for pushing back against what they view as insulting attacks on Michelle Obama. Critics accused her of defending rhetoric from one side while condemning it from the other.
Enter Scott Jennings.
The Republican strategist, who has become one of the most visible conservative voices on CNN, appeared visibly unimpressed as Navarro’s comments escalated. His reaction became a talking point of its own, with clips of the exchange circulating widely online.
In a separate discussion, he turned his attention to Robert De Niro, the Oscar-winning actor whose political activism has made him one of Donald Trump’s most outspoken celebrity critics. Jennings took issue with comments De Niro made at a recent Democratic event, arguing that patriotism should not depend on which party controls Washington.
Scott makes a good point about Robert DeNiro and leftists like him- they talk like fascists. 😉pic.twitter.com/M7Z7PQpjn1

“I think you have to love your country, whether or not you lost the last election,” Jennings said. “I love America.” He continued by arguing that national pride shouldn’t fluctuate with electoral outcomes and criticized the idea that political defeat should diminish affection for the country itself. “When I hear De Niro,” Jennings said, “I hear him saying, ‘I can only love America if we win every election from here on out.’ That’s a rather fascist statement.”
In other words, another day in America’s endless political cage match.
