For years, conservatives have joked that if you want to see America’s future, just look at New York City.
Donald Trump apparently looked at this week’s Democratic primary results and decided the future had arrived wearing a Che Guevara T-shirt.
Following a string of victories by candidates backed by New York City mayoral nominee Zohran Mamdani, Trump took to Truth Social with a message that was about as subtle as a Fourth of July fireworks finale.
“The Communists are finally making their move. I’ve been waiting and preparing for this for a long time.”
Leave it to Trump. Most politicians would release a carefully crafted statement filled with consultant-approved buzzwords. Trump skips the focus groups and goes straight to DEFCON 1.
He didn’t stop there.
“It’s easy to be a Communist — All you have to do is say, ‘I’ll give you everything,’ but that means you’re taking it away from others that have earned it.”
Then came the history lesson.
“Over thousands of years, that Ideology has not worked once.”
And, because it wouldn’t be a Trump post without a little showmanship:
“The game is on. Enjoy watching!”
This wins the internet for today.
Tomorrow too.
Next week and next month looking good too. https://t.co/nK6XGI6KXV— Dan Bongino (@dbongino) June 25, 2026
Now, before anyone starts clutching their pearls and insisting, “Nobody’s talking about communism,” it’s worth looking at what actually happened in New York.
Mamdani, a self-described democratic socialist, backed three Democratic primary challengers. All three won. That’s not just a good election night. That’s batting 1000.
Former New York City Comptroller Brad Lander unseated Rep. Dan Goldman. Political newcomer Darializa Avila Chevalier defeated longtime Congressman Adriano Espaillat. And State Rep. Claire Valdez, another democratic socialist, knocked off Brooklyn Borough President Antonio Reynoso.
Whether you call it a progressive wave, a democratic socialist movement or simply frustrated Democratic voters looking for new faces, the message was hard to miss: the activist wing of the party had itself a very good night.
Even Hunter Biden saw it as more than a local story.
“The middle is not a strategy.”
He added:
“Voters reached past the establishment to grab someone who actually believes something.”
Hunter Biden and Donald Trump don’t agree on much. But both appeared to recognize that the political center is having a rough year.
I’m not running for office. But if I were, these are some of the lessons I’d take away from what happened in NY yesterday.
1. Authenticity is measurable. Voters can smell a focus group from a mile away.
2. Endorsements from the current Democratic leadership now read like…

Republicans wasted no time trying to define what these victories mean.
During a closed-door House GOP meeting, National Republican Congressional Committee Chairman Richard Hudson reportedly described the Democratic primaries this way:
“Democrats have a Bolshevik revolution going on in their primaries.”
Of course, Democrats aren’t exactly waving white flags.
House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries acknowledged he disagrees with some of Mamdani’s endorsements but downplayed any suggestion that the party is spiraling into ideological chaos. Jeffries said he and Mamdani “strongly disagree” on some endorsements while insisting they still maintain a “very good” relationship and speak frequently.
In other words, everything is fine. Please stop asking questions.
