UNITED CAJUN NAVY SETS THE RECORD STRAIGHT AS NOLAN WELLS INVESTIGATION CONTINUES

The volunteer search organization that helped locate the body of Mississippi teenager Nolan Wells is attempting to clear up confusion surrounding one of the most widely discussed details in the case.

The United Cajun Navy released a statement Wednesday emphasizing that Wells was not found “fully clothed,” contrary to reports that circulated following a television interview earlier this week. Instead, the organization says Wells was recovered wearing only the same blue swim trunks witnesses reported he had been wearing before he disappeared during a Fourth of July boating trip to Horn Island.

The clarification came after United Cajun Navy founder Todd Terrell appeared on The Nancy Grace Show. During that interview, Grace asked whether Wells had been found “still fully clothed on the beach.”

“Yes, that is correct. He was face down,” Terrell initially replied.

Terrell later acknowledged he should have corrected the wording.

“I just agreed with her because the body was clothed. Maybe I should have corrected her,” he later told the Sun Herald, explaining that the organization’s aerial search team observed Wells wearing only swim trunks.

The organization later posted its own statement on social media.

“Recent media reports have stated that Nolan Wells was found ‘fully clothed.’ That statement is not consistent with what the United Cajun Navy search team observed.”

The statement continued:

“Nolan was found face down wearing only swim trunks. The United Cajun Navy has never stated that Nolan was recovered fully clothed, and it’s important that the facts surrounding this case are reported accurately.”

It concluded with a simple message:

“Facts matter. Families deserve the truth.”

The clarification comes just one day after attorneys representing the Wells family released preliminary findings from an independent autopsy.

According to forensic pathologist Dr. Roger Mitchell, the current cause and manner of death remain undetermined pending further investigation. The report documented discoloration to the back of Wells’ head but noted that decomposition prevented definitive conclusions regarding its significance.

Authorities have not announced any evidence establishing foul play, and investigators have said the case remains active while additional forensic testing, including toxicology, continues.

Wells, an 18-year-old college football player, disappeared during a July 4 boating trip to Horn Island off Mississippi’s Gulf Coast. His body was recovered two days later following an extensive search involving local agencies and volunteer organizations.

The Wells family’s attorney, Benjamin Crump, has called for a thorough investigation while seeking answers surrounding the circumstances of the teenager’s death. Public interest in the case has grown steadily as new forensic information has emerged, but officials continue to caution that the investigation is ongoing.
