BS BRIEF:
- President Trump announced that his U.S.-backed Board of Peace has reached a framework agreement calling for the phased disarmament of Hamas and other armed groups in Gaza. Hamas officials also confirmed that an agreement had been reached, though implementation remains ahead.
- The plan envisions Hamas surrendering its weapons over several months, the creation of a technocratic Palestinian government, an international stabilization force, and a gradual Israeli military withdrawal tied to verified disarmament. Israel has not signed the agreement and remains publicly skeptical.
- If the agreement survives the next several months, it could become the most significant political shift in Gaza since Hamas seized power nearly two decades ago.
TRUMP HAILS HISTORIC HAMAS DISARMAMENT DEAL—NOW COMES THE HARD PART
President Trump declared Thursday that his administration has reached what he called a “historic” agreement to dismantle Hamas’ military presence in Gaza, announcing a framework that would require the terror group and other armed factions to surrender their weapons in carefully monitored phases.
“Today, the Board of Peace reached a HISTORIC agreement for the COMPLETE DISARMAMENT of Hamas and all other armed groups in Gaza,” Trump wrote on Truth Social, calling it “a monumental step toward lasting PEACE and SECURITY.”
A senior Hamas official also confirmed to multiple news outlets that an agreement had been reached and said a formal announcement would follow. Under the reported framework, weapons would be collected and secured under the supervision of a new Palestinian technocratic administration while an International Stabilization Force gradually assumes security responsibilities. Israeli troops would withdraw only as each phase is independently verified.
The breakthrough, however, comes with a major caveat.
Israel has yet to formally endorse the agreement and continues to insist that Hamas must be fully demilitarized before any significant military withdrawal occurs. One U.S. official told reporters the deal is “conditions-based,” adding that Israeli officials remain skeptical Hamas will ultimately follow through.
Trump credited Egypt, Qatar and Türkiye for helping broker the negotiations and said the agreement would eventually allow Gaza to be governed by a new Palestinian administration rather than by Hamas.
Security analysts cautioned that the disarmament process could take many months and will require extensive international monitoring before either side can declare success.
Today, the Board of Peace reached a HISTORIC agreement for the COMPLETE DISARMAMENT of Hamas and all other armed groups in Gaza. This is a monumental step toward lasting PEACE and SECURITY.
This agreement is a critical step towards Gaza finally being governed by a new Palestinian government that will work closely with the Board of Peace to help the Palestinian people. At the same time, Israel will have the security it deserves, with Gaza no longer used as a base for terror attacks.
This is a major milestone in the implementation of the Trump 20-Point Plan. The agreement will be carried out in carefully structured phases. As disarmament is completed, Israeli forces will withdraw, and the International Stabilization Force will work with a new Palestinian police force to take responsibility for Gaza being safe for its residents and its neighbors.
One year ago there was a violent raging war, humanitarian crisis and hostages kept in brutal captivity. We have made historic progress and there is still much work to do.
I want to thank the mediators—Egypt, Qatar, and Türkiye—for their important efforts, and especially my outstanding team, whose tireless work made this historic breakthrough possible.
The threat that emerged from Gaza on October 7 will NOT be allowed to rebuild!
Under this agreement, Gaza will finally be in the hands of a new Palestinian government that serves its PEOPLE.
CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL ON THIS AMAZING DEVELOPMENT, THAT EVERYBODY SAID COULD NEVER BE ACHIEVED!
DONALD J. TRUMP
President of the United States of America
