Veteran Democratic strategist James Carville delivered another blistering broadside against President Donald Trump Wednesday, arguing the United States is “losing” the war with Iran, has dangerously depleted its munitions stockpiles, and could soon see Trump resign from office.
Speaking from what appeared to be a bed or couch during an online video, Carville painted a grim picture of America’s military readiness, claiming the administration has exhausted critical weapons supplies while overextending U.S. forces in the Middle East.
“We have… our munition supply — that’s ammo — is dangerously, dangerously low.”
He then summed up his argument with a phrase that quickly spread across social media.
“We shot our wad.”
Carville argued aircraft carriers are overstretched, sailors are being overworked, and military leaders are struggling to find an effective strategy against Iran.
“We are in the middle of losing a war.”
He also claimed senior commanders were turning to enlisted personnel for ideas on how to improve battlefield operations, saying:
“The brass is asking the troops… ‘You got any idea how we can do this battle?'”
Carville offered no evidence for that assertion.
His comments come as reports from multiple news organizations have raised concerns about shrinking inventories of certain precision-guided missiles following months of combat operations against Iran. Reuters recently reported that U.S. stockpiles of some long-range precision weapons have been significantly reduced, while defense analysts have warned replenishing those inventories could take time.
President Trump forcefully rejected those reports Thursday morning.
Posting on Truth Social, the president insisted:
“The U.S. has massive amounts of ‘munitions,’ especially of certain types.”
Trump added that additional weapons are being manufactured and delivered as needed, arguing the country remains fully prepared despite reports questioning the pace of weapons production.
Carville wasn’t finished.
He also predicted Republicans would suffer a crushing defeat in the upcoming midterm elections, causing Trump’s political influence to evaporate before ultimately leading him to resign.
According to Carville’s scenario, Vice President JD Vance would then assume the presidency and immediately pardon Trump.
“He’s going to resign… You’re going to pardon me.”
Carville argued Trump would take that route because of lingering legal uncertainty surrounding the constitutionality of a president issuing himself a pardon.
Whether any of that unfolds remains entirely speculative.
For now, the immediate debate centers on America’s military readiness, with the administration maintaining the United States has sufficient weapons while critics continue pointing to reports that some high-end missile inventories have been strained by the conflict.

Only James Carville could deliver what sounds like the State of the Union… from what looks like nap time. The man managed to predict military collapse, a presidential resignation, a constitutional crisis and a JD Vance pardon without ever leaving the pillow. I’ve seen less drama from people ordering room service. If this keeps up, somebody’s going to have to invent a new political format: “Pundits in Pajamas.”
