Kamala Harris jumps into the AI debate — and Scott Presler has just two letters for her

Kamala Harris has jumped back into the rapidly escalating debate over artificial intelligence, and Scott Presler apparently couldn’t resist reaching into the archives.

The former vice president issued a lengthy statement this week warning that “the frontier of artificial intelligence is advancing at an alarming speed.”

Harris called for slowing the pace of frontier AI development while Congress creates new laws and a federal entity responsible for oversight and independent testing. She also urged President Donald Trump to pursue international agreements, including with China, aimed at limiting dangerous uses of AI and establishing global testing standards.

That was enough for conservative activist and voter-registration organizer Scott Presler to remember another Harris discussion about artificial intelligence.

“Ladies & Gentlemen, America dodged a bullet,” Presler wrote Friday while reposting a 2023 clip of Harris saying, “AI is kind of a fancy thing. First of all, it’s two letters.”

Harris made the remark in July 2023 while serving as vice president during a White House roundtable with labor and civil-rights leaders about artificial intelligence.

“It means artificial intelligence, but ultimately what it is is it’s about machine learning,” Harris continued.

She went on to discuss how the information used to train AI systems can affect the decisions and outputs those systems produce. Presler’s repost quickly attracted attention, and Rep. Greg Steube joined in.

“Wow. Just remember it’s 2 letters, Fancy,” the Florida Republican wrote.

The resurfaced clip has been making the rounds throughout the week as Harris attempts to insert herself into the current fight over how quickly AI should advance and how aggressively Washington should regulate it.

Three years later, apparently those two letters still have legs.
